Cognitive Death (double-length chapter)

After the New World Group unified the globe, it did not immediately discard its cover identity. Instead, it continued operating under the name of the New World Group.

Kurapika knew that among the billions of people worldwide, there were bound to be opportunists, villains, and corrupt elements. Those who had already exposed themselves were naturally easy to handle.

Others, however, hid themselves very deeply, even posing as respectable "gentlemen." These were precisely the people they needed to guard against most.

The demon king Pāxún said, "When your age of declining Dharma comes, I will send my disciples and their descendants to infiltrate your monastic community. They will wear your robes and destroy your teachings. They will distort your scriptures and violate your precepts to achieve what I cannot achieve through force today..."

Those who understood needed no explanation.

Kurapika was not worried about enemies out in the open. He was worried about corrupt forces infiltrating their ranks.

That was why he had not immediately let the New World Group retire after its success. Instead, he continued using that cover identity, gradually admitting those who could be reformed as full members of the Human Reform League.

Those who were not admitted could only remain forever on Earth in the One-Punch Universe. More precisely, they would be settled in the former District O.

The Human Reform League rarely resorted to massacres to deal with these dissidents anymore. Instead, it confined them to a designated area, stripped them of their right to reproduce, and allowed them to die naturally of old age within the confinement zone.

What Kurapika needed to do now was identify the portion of the population that could be reformed and admit them into the New World Group.

The New World Group would then conduct a second screening to produce
