History

Gaia's Star God Era

Ninety-three years before the story's opening, selected meditators on Gaia perceived a vast Star God. The resulting fear, madness, and collapse of order triggered widespread wars. Three years later, starlight began affecting atoms: gunpowder failed, weapons malfunctioned, and hostile machinery turned against its users. The wars consequently ended 4.

The Star God's radiance affected all life on Gaia rather than humanity alone. Beasts, plants, and animals gained equal exposure to starlight, producing ferocious beasts and demonic creatures that reduced human territory. The first Star Refiners emerged seventy years before the story and helped establish the balance between humanity and these creatures 4.

The Human Alliance later revealed that Gaia's Star God had fallen. Its fall is divided into three stages: during the critical second stage, from ten to one hundred Star Years, the Human Alliance formally descends to guide affected civilizations; after one hundred Star Years, an outstanding civilization may be chosen to inherit the fallen Star God's power and produce a successor 394.

Star Realm Existence

A cultivator becomes a Star God by completing the path of ascension and merging with the Star Realm. Their true body remains in the Star Realm while their will can be projected into the material world. The cancellation of time between the two states grants Star Gods theoretical immortality 476.

This immortality is conditional. The shattered Star Realm is filled with dangerous fragments and the Power of Guixu; excessive combat or uncontrolled energy release can attract Guixu and lead to destruction. The shattering of the Star Realm itself killed numerous Star Gods and left behind their accumulated treasures as Divine Treasures 477 724.
