Background and History

Madara is the son of former Uchiha clan head Tajima and the brother of Izuna. Izuna died after giving Madara his Mangekyō power. Madara later fought Hashirama Senju at the Valley of the End, used Izanagi to fake his death, and obtained Hashirama’s flesh 214 394 471.

Madara pursues the Infinite Tsukuyomi to place the world in a peaceful dream. He directs events through Obito, Nagato and Akatsuki, while the masked Obito also uses “Madara Uchiha” as an assumed identity. They are separate people: Obito revives the real Madara in Chapter 393 268 393 398 399.

Shiyu warns Madara that the Uchiha stone tablet was altered and that his plan serves someone else’s purpose. Madara listens but refuses to abandon the Infinite Tsukuyomi 398 399. After losing to Shiyu, he assembles White Zetsu and western forces for war against the Ninja Allied Forces 396 418.

During the war, Madara overwhelms the Five Kage and the Sannin, gathers tailed-beast chakra, and summons the God Tree. Obito turns against him and briefly takes part of the Ten-Tails’ power, but Madara recaptures it 452 454 461 463. Madara casts the Infinite Tsukuyomi despite lacking the Three-Tails. Black Zetsu and the Sky Fox then ambush him; Black Zetsu reveals that the altered tablet guided Madara toward Kaguya’s resurrection. Regretting his actions, Madara entrusts the aftermath to Shiyu as his body begins to transform 465.

Appearance

When revived, Madara emerges from a coffin as a white-haired corpse whose bearing Shiyu still finds imposing 393.

• His Susanoo manifests as a blue, three-headed, six-armed war god 395 417.
• After absorbing the God Tree, he manifests a Rinne Sharingan on his forehead 464 465.

Personality

Madara enjoys fighting opponents who challenge him. Though confident enough to underestimate Shiyu at first, he comes to admire Shiyu’s strength and acknowledges his defeat. He is also willing to set aside his pride and cooperate with the God Emperor and Sky Fox when he believes it will help him win 394 396 463.

He describes peace as the aim of his Infinite Tsukuyomi plan, yet continues pursuing it after Shiyu warns him of its dangers. He distrusts allies such as Shin Uchiha and the Sky Fox, but fails to recognize Black Zetsu’s betrayal in time 398 399 418 464 465.

Dōjutsu and Six Paths techniques

• Sharingan and genjutsu: Tracks Shiyu’s movements and briefly disrupts him with genjutsu during close combat 395.
