Background / History
Origins and position in Konoha
Shiyu identifies the Uchiha as descendants of Indra Ōtsutsuki, inheritors of the Sage of Six Paths' ocular lineage. Their long conflict with the Senju—descendants of Asura—is described as the result of manipulation rather than an inevitable feud. 323 398
The Uchiha and Senju jointly founded Konohagakure. Despite this founding role, the Uchiha later occupied a relatively detached position within the village, maintaining their own district, estate, and Military Police Force. 114
Bloodline-purity policy
The clan enforced a rule against members marrying people with other Kekkei Genkai. Shiyu's Uchiha father was removed from the clan registry because of his relationship with Shiyu's Hyuga mother, and Shiyu was subsequently ostracized as a child of “impure” blood. 35 39 116
After Shiyu negotiated with Masamune, the clan restored his father's reputation, placed his name on the Uchiha Memorial Stone, and granted him the title of honorary elder. The clan also formally prohibited further harassment of Shiyu. 118
Organization
| Position | Holder | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Clan Head | Uchiha Masamune | Led the clan during Shiyu's negotiations; later became Shinobi Village's head of security. 114 243 |

| Military Police Force Captain | Uchiha Yoshitsugu | Oversaw the Konoha Military Police Force during Masamune's leadership. 114 |
| Shinobi Village leader | Uchiha Yoshiki | Masamune's granddaughter, recommended to lead the new village established by Shiyu. 244 |
- The Uchiha district contained the clan's residences, the Naka Shrine, and the headquarters of the Konoha Military Police Force. 114
- At Masamune's residence, many assembled clan elites were identified as having at least Two-Tomoe Sharingan. 114
- The clan retained secret ninjutsu in an old scroll repository, from which Shiyu was permitted to select three techniques. 115
Abilities & Skills
Sharingan
The Sharingan is the Uchiha's defining dōjutsu. Its users display varying tomoe stages; Uchiha Chunin were seen with Two-Tomoe Sharingan, while the Military Police Jonin pursuing Shiyu possessed Three-Tomoe Sharingan. 61 63
- Enables highly refined perception and combat prediction, allowing Two-Tomoe users to evade coordinated assaults. 63
- Concentrates chakra around the eyes when activated, which Shiyu can detect with his White Rinnegan. 60
- Can be impaired by Shiyu's Great Mist Technique, which limits Sharingan-based vision while leaving his Byakugan-derived perception effective. 61
- The clan's powerful bloodline is identified as a remnant of Indra's Yin power. 53 62
Mangekyo Sharingan
Mangekyo Sharingan users are exceptionally rare among the Uchiha and are treated as elite combatants.
| Wielder | Documented ability |
|---|---|
| Uchiha Shisui | Kotoamatsukami, a genjutsu capable of entering another person's mind and altering their perceptions or decisions. 313 316 |
| Uchiha Itachi | Tsukuyomi and Amaterasu. 323 |
| Uchiha Fugaku | Confirmed Mangekyo Sharingan user. 414 |
| Uchiha Izuna | Used Susanoo, including its Complete Body form, while reincarnated. 214 216 |
Fire Style
Fire Release is a recurring Uchiha combat specialty.
- Fire Style: Great Fireball Jutsu — used by Uchiha Wei and later by clan combatants in coordinated attacks. 4 53
- Fire Style: Phoenix Sage Fire Technique — employed by Uchiha Jonin to pressure Shiyu's Shadow Clones. 62
- Shisui and Itachi combined Fire Style with Shiyu's Wind Release to create Scorch Release during their battle with Root. 316
Swordsmanship
The Uchiha maintained a swordsmanship tradition, though it was said to be declining and at risk of disappearing within a decade. 43
- Uchiha Masamune wielded the sword Kagemitsu alongside Fire Style and Uchiha-style swordsmanship. 250
- Shisui was recognized as a skilled swordsman from a young age. 43
- Shisui and Itachi used Uchiha-style swordsmanship to overwhelm Shin Uchiha in close combat. 421
Story Role / Major Arcs
Persecution of Shiyu
Several Uchiha members targeted Shiyu over his mixed bloodline and suspected him of killing clan members. Shiyu defeated three attackers as a Genin, later killed additional Uchiha who attempted to assassinate him, and was pursued by Uchiha squads during the Chunin Exams. 10 11 53 61 62
Fugaku publicly accused Shiyu of killing Uchiha during the exams, but Shiyu denied the charge and exploited the implausibility of a five-year-old defeating the clan's stronger ninja. 76
Potential-awakening negotiations
At Konoha's request, Shiyu negotiated directly with Masamune. He demanded 100 million ryō, access to three Uchiha secret techniques, and information about his father in exchange for awakening the potential of selected clan members. 114 115
Shiyu later expanded the terms for awakening the wider clan: 300 million ryō, restoration of his father's status, and settlement of prior grievances. Masamune accepted after witnessing members break through chakra bottlenecks and some advance from Two-Tomoe to Three-Tomoe Sharingan. 117 118
Defection from Konohagakure
When Danzo's actions and the impending coup placed the clan at risk of destruction, Shiyu offered the Uchiha a path to relocate to Shinobi Village. The arrangement was intended to preserve the clan, prevent civil war, and secure five years of peace for Konoha. 315 317
Fugaku persuaded more than half of the clan to leave Konohagakure voluntarily. Shisui, Itachi, and Shiyu escorted the migration north, while dissenting members remained behind. 317 324
Service in Shinobi Village
The relocated Uchiha became a major part of Shiyu's growing village. Masamune accepted responsibility for security, Yoshiki became the village's leader, and Fugaku, Itachi, and Shisui served among its strongest combatants. 243 244 414
During the war against Madara's forces, Itachi and Shisui defeated Shin Uchiha, rejected his claim to represent their clan, and declared that the Uchiha fight for the clan's safety and prosperity rather than hatred. 420 421
