Background

Born into the Hua Clan as Yun Chu, he was named after the clan prodigy Yun Dechu. His mischievous behavior led clan members to mock him as being “born lacking virtue”; after Yun Dechu’s death and the Hua Clan’s calamity, Yun Chu was treated as an ill omen and expelled as part of the Chaos Plan. He subsequently took the name Yun Wanchu and founded Wanli Holy Land. The “Li” in its name refers to the Chaos Leaving Fire Plan. 6

Although he became the Holy Lord of Wanli Holy Land, Yun Wanchu was raised by Hua Yunxiao and regarded him as both father and teacher. His position was ultimately revealed to be subordinate to the Hua Clan rather than fully independent. 14 31 49

When he first met Su Li, Yun Wanchu suspected the seemingly ordinary youth of targeting the Hua Clan’s inheritance. Su Li’s accurate exposure of his history, cultivation, and private thoughts forced him to reconsider; he soon became one of Su Li’s most deferential supporters. 5 6 7

Personality

Yun Wanchu is exceptionally cautious and openly afraid of death. Hua Yunxiao’s assessment of him is that he is “good at nothing except being the most afraid of death,” a judgment supported by Yun Wanchu’s layered defenses, escape plans, and immediate anxiety whenever Su Li hints at danger. 7 8

His fear does not make him indifferent to others. He treats the Holy Land’s disciples as children under his care, quietly arranges opportunities for them, and attempts to send them away when the sect’s destruction becomes unavoidable. 44 45

Despite his habitual self-preservation, Yun Wanchu ultimately chooses duty over survival. Knowing that Wanli Holy Land has been designated for sacrifice, he remains behind to defend it because he believes his life should repay Hua Yunxiao’s upbringing and cultivation. 49

Story Role / Major Arcs

Hua Ziyan’s Destiny Tribulation

Hua Ziyan summons Yun Wanchu to meet Su Li and assist in investigating the Puppet Death Warriors threatening her. His initial suspicion turns into fear and respect after Su Li reveals his origins and hidden thoughts. 5 6 7

Yun Wanchu helps confront the ambush at Yanmen Pass, deploying formations and personally destroying the Puppet Death Warriors once Su Li identifies Wu Xu Hong and Yun Yifan as the forces behind them. 8

Soul Suppressing Stele Crisis

After Su Li predicts the descent of the Soul Suppressing Stele, Yun Wanchu helps relay the warning to Hua Yunxiao. The warning allows the group to avoid the Blazing Wasteland disaster that would otherwise have killed Yun Wanchu, Hua Ziyan, and numerous true disciples. 9 10

His Destiny subsequently changes from Imminent Demise to Immense Fortune, reflecting the immediate crisis averted through Su Li’s intervention. 13

Wanli Holy Land’s Internal Crisis

Yun Wanchu continues supporting Su Li’s investigations into the Hua Clan’s ancestral problem and the danger surrounding the Holy Land. He repeatedly seeks divinations regarding his own future, remaining deeply concerned about every sign of danger. 13 18 20

As the sect’s catastrophe approaches, he assists Hua Yunxiao in sealing the mountain and organizing defenses. He nevertheless remains unaware for much of the arc that Wanli Holy Land itself is intended as a sacrifice. 37 40 49

Final Defense and Death

Su Li gives Yun Wanchu a jade slip exposing the Sacrifice Plan. Despite learning the truth, Yun Wanchu chooses not to flee, believing that he must repay Hua Yunxiao for raising and cultivating him. 49

After Hua Yunxiao evacuates selected individuals, Yun Wanchu remains alone to defend Wanli Holy Land. He delays the enemy assault until nearly midnight, but the sect is reduced to ruins and its disciples are killed or refined through the Soul Refining Banner. Rather than allow his own soul to be refined, he self-destructs his Nascent Soul, killing several Nascent Soul Realm enemies with him. 49
