Background / History

Su Li is a transmigrator whose memories of a previous life return gradually after he reaches three and a half years old. In that life, he considered himself kind, righteous, talented, and loyal, yet was ultimately betrayed and left homeless; the experience leaves him distrustful of the idea that goodness is rewarded. 1

Before his memories resurface, Su Li is born into the Su family alongside his genius brother Su Ye and twin sister Su He. Overhearing his parents’ plan to use his compatible Five Elements Soul Power to repair Su Ye’s incomplete Heavenly Soul—and fearing Su He would also be born with an incomplete soul—he attempts fetal self-destruction by strangling himself with his umbilical cord. 1

Afterward, he lives in Lihe Village with his father, Su Xinghe, a poorly skilled Observer of Trends who teaches him flawed Feng Shui knowledge and makes him consume dubious remedies. When Su Xinghe dies, Su Li is left alone at the Silent Ancient Temple; shortly thereafter, he awakens the Life Archive System, Qian Lan. 3

Su Li first gains prominence when Mu Yuxi brings Hua Ziyan to him for a deduction. By reading Hua Ziyan’s Life Archive and thoughts, he reveals her identity, talent, childhood fate-tribulation, and impending death during a breakthrough. His warnings lead Hua Ziyan and Wanli Holy Land to seek his aid. 1 5

He repeatedly intervenes in the destinies of Hua Ziyan, Mu Yuxi, Yun Wanchu, and Wanli Holy Land. His successful warnings regarding the Puppet Death Warriors and the Soul Suppressing Stele establish his reputation, but the attention gained also leaves him vulnerable to suspicion, coercion, and hostile schemes. 8 10 26 30

By Chapter 49, Yaolan attempts to possess him. He disappears amid the destruction of Wanli Holy Land and is later revealed to be trapped in the Frost Space, unable to escape or properly operate Qian Lan. 49 50

Appearance

Su Li is a strikingly handsome young man whose appearance repeatedly influences how others perceive him. Hua Ziyan is immediately struck by him when he rises and opens his eyes. 1

  • Calm, refined demeanor that he deliberately cultivates to support his image as an unfathomable master.
  • Often stands with his hands behind his back to appear composed and otherworldly. 8 9
  • Wears a custom Spirit Silk Python Pattern Robe and Spirit Snake Skin Boots made for him by Hua Ziyan and Mu Yuxi. 21
  • Is physically frail, deficient in qi and blood, and initially weaker than ordinary mortals in bloodline strength. 6
  • Lacks conventional spiritual aptitude and an exceptional bloodline. 3 36

Personality

Su Li is observant, cautious, and highly self-aware about his physical weakness. He uses Qian Lan’s information to sustain the façade of an enlightened Heavenly Secrets Master, but internally he often panics around powerful cultivators and fears being killed to silence him. 5 6 26

His previous life leaves him cynical about human nature and wary of self-sacrifice. Although he regularly seeks rewards, Heavenly Secrets Value, and favorable connections, he still acts to save people whose fates concern him, particularly Hua Ziyan and Mu Yuxi. 1 9 36

He is vain about his looks, enjoys presenting himself as a dignified master, and is willing to exploit misunderstandings to survive. After the Nine Radiance Heart-Inquiry Tea grants him clarity, he recognizes that revealing too many secrets makes him dangerous to others and resolves to be more restrained and prestigious in his deductions. 2 5 26

Abilities & Skills

Life Archive System — Qian Lan

Qian Lan is Su Li’s central ability: a system that displays information on the lives, thoughts, destinies, and experiences of others. 3

  • Views a target’s past and present Life Archive through Keen Observation. 11
  • Can expose identities, talents, physiques, private thoughts, historical events, and imminent dangers. 2 6
  • Allows Su Li to read the current thoughts of targets whose Archives he has opened. 2 6
  • Future records require Heavenly Secrets Value; the cost varies with the target and circumstance. 6 9 25
  • Its use can consume Spiritual Qi and leave Su Li exhausted or unable to maintain his supernatural abilities. 20 21
  • Powerful targets may employ techniques that obstruct or increase the cost of viewing their Archives. 15

Control Future

By spending Heavenly Secrets Value, Su Li can inspect likely future entries in a target’s Life Archive for up to seven days. 11

  • Predicted Hua Ziyan and Mu Yuxi’s ambush by Puppet Death Warriors. 3 4
  • Forewarned Wanli Holy Land of the descending Soul Suppressing Stele. 9 10
  • Identifies imminent death and potential calamities affecting disciples and allies. 8 21 25
  • Future outcomes can change through intervention, so the records are not absolutely fixed. 28

Heavenly Secrets Divination

Su Li combines system knowledge with metaphysical methods from his former world, including I Ching divination, Feng Shui, Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches, and the Five Elements. 12 18 20

  • Uses cold stems and trigram symbols to divine a person’s fortune. 18 20
  • Employs the Five Emperors Ancient Coin in divinations. 18 27
  • Diagnoses Wanli Holy Land’s unfavorable Feng Shui and the Hua Clan’s ancestral-bone curse. 12 13
  • Determines that Hua Ziyan’s Feng Di Guan Hexagram calls for caution, self-reflection, and assistance from benefactors. 26
  • Repeated divinations can inflict pain, nausea, and backlash. 20

Reasoning to Convince

A system function that rewards Su Li for exposing hypocrisy or using reasoning to alter others’ thoughts and choices. 11 19

  • Used against Zhuge Qingchen, exposing his hypocritical façade and earning Heavenly Secrets Value. 15 19
  • Reinforces Su Li’s ability to persuade others while maintaining his masterly persona.
  • Does not activate automatically against every person he encounters. 21

Cultivation Knowledge

Su Li has no proven cultivation talent and struggles even to reach Qi Refining. He instead seeks to develop a cultivation path suitable for his unusual soul structure. 3 11 18

  • Possesses three Souls and seven Spirits, unlike the one Soul and one Spirit attributed to cultivators of the setting. 6
  • Studies pre-Qin alchemical principles and seeks to combine them with local cultivation methods. 18
  • Plans to create a cultivation system based on refining essence into qi and refining qi into spirit. 18 20
  • Briefly gains improved tolerance for Spiritual Qi after drinking Nine Radiance Heart-Inquiry Tea. 30
