Background / History

Torifu was one of Tobirama Senju’s six disciples. He was later stripped of his authority; according to the account of Konoha’s later political collapse, he withdrew from public affairs and researched food at home until the war drew him back out. He is described as the most honest and kind-hearted among Tobirama’s disciples. 156 212

During the crisis in the Land of Whirlpools, Torifu broke with the prevailing position of Konoha’s leadership by insisting that troops be sent. His mother-in-law was a ninja from Uzushio Village and had many relatives and friends there, giving him a personal stake in its survival. His position led to him being ostracized by the other officials. 71

Uchiha Dan subsequently asked Torifu to support Tsunade’s bid for the Hokage position when the time came. Torifu’s later actions established him as one of Tsunade’s firmest political supporters. 71 147

After Konoha failed to support Uzushio, Hiruzen Sarutobi attempted to send Torifu to repair relations with the village. Torifu claimed illness and refused, resenting the leadership that had opposed his call for intervention. 97

Torifu is blunt and dislikes indirect conversation; when Uchiha Dan spoke elliptically about Konoha’s political situation, Torifu demanded that he state his terms plainly. 71

Despite this straightforward manner, he is politically capable. During the strategic-warehouse controversy, he framed an investigation as a matter of transparency, then nominated figures from multiple competing factions—including Ryohei Hyuga, Mitokado Homura, Uchiha Fukuyama, himself, and Tsunade—to ensure mutual oversight and constrain Hiruzen’s control of the process. 171

His politics are guided by a strong sense of principle. He opposed sacrificing Uzushio for expediency and rejected the idea that Tsunade could be traded away for village profit. 71 111
