Background and History

Ling Jing travels with his elder sister, Ling Ju, to the Divine Sword Sect to study its Ten-Thousand Army Formation. He initially cannot locate the sect, and the siblings encounter Jing Pu while lost. When Jing Pu later identifies himself as “Zhao Zilong of Changshan,” Ling Jing mistakes it for his name 10 11 16.

Ling Jing accompanies Lie Chun to Jing Pu’s courtyard. After seeing Lie Chun benefit from working with a hoe, he begins hoeing there too. He becomes so intent on digging that Ling Ju confronts Jing Pu over the time her brother is spending away from his responsibilities 15 17 20 22. Ling Jing later asks Jing Pu to teach him blade techniques. After a month of instruction and rapid cultivation progress, he plans to enter seclusion to stabilize his Dao Heart before the Myriad Sect Grand Ceremony 31 41 42.

Personality

• Reckless and proud: Ling Jing has a history of provoking others, including severely injuring the Yan Dynasty’s heir. He initially considers fieldwork beneath an Imperial Prince 17 19.
• Afraid of his family’s discipline: Despite his bravado, he fears his father and Ling Ju, who often intervenes when he causes trouble 10 19.
