Background and History
Tang San was Yu Xiaogang’s disciple by the time Qian Mo’s group passed through Nuoding City. During that encounter, a chain of misfortunes left both Tang San and Yu Xiaogang humiliated, with Tang San falling into a cesspit 6.
At age nine, Tang San worked day and night in a blacksmith shop to purchase rare metals for his hidden weapons. His Mysterious Heaven Skill had stalled at a bottleneck, and he lacked the resources that would have strengthened him in the original trajectory 17. He later fought a two-thousand-year Man Faced Demon Spider and absorbed its Soul Ring, but Qian Mo compelled the dying creature to surrender the nascent Eight Spider Lances before Tang San could acquire them 18.
By age twelve, Tang San had reached Rank 29 Soul Grand Master. He travelled to Suotuo City with Xiao Wu, hoping to earn money through the Spirit Arena because he could barely afford tuition 19. At Shrek Academy, he initially regarded himself as a genuine “monster,” but Qian Mo and Zhu Zhuqing’s power shattered his confidence in Yu Xiaogang’s Soul Ring theories 21 22.
Tang San repeatedly clashed with Qian Mo’s group. He attempted to use poisoned hidden weapons against Zhao Wuji during his entrance assessment, but Qian Mo intercepted every projectile with a teacup lid; Zhao Wuji then beat Tang San unconscious 24. His later efforts to undermine Qian Mo’s team—including attacks against Ning Rongrong, Oscar, Xiao Wu, and Qian Mo himself—ended in defeat and further alienated his former allies 29 31 34.
After the Spirit Arena battle, Tang San was seriously wounded by the reflected bolts of his own Godly Zhuge Crossbow. He rejected Yu Xiaogang’s teachings, stole Flender’s savings intended for Ma Hongjun’s medicine, and fled toward the Soul Hunting Forest in pursuit of strength 34 35. Qian Mo manipulated the forest’s circumstances against him: a meteorite destroyed Tang San’s shoulder, leaving him helpless before a ten-year Wind Baboon, which ultimately suffocated him to death 35 36.
Appearance
Tang San is depicted at age twelve as a poor and increasingly battered youth, contrasting sharply with Qian Mo’s richly equipped companions.
- Wore patched, coarse blue clothing while travelling to Shrek Academy 19 21.
- Worked as a blacksmith at age nine, often covered in coal dust and dressed in worn clothes 17.
- Wore a patched dark-green Shrek team uniform at the Spirit Arena 33.
- Was left severely swollen, poisoned, and scarred after successive defeats 24 34 35.
- Entered the Soul Hunting Forest in tattered clothing while suffering from lingering poison damage 36.
Personality
Tang San is determined, proud, and intensely convinced of the superiority of his Tang Sect techniques. Even after seeing Qian Mo’s overwhelming strength, he continued to believe that hidden weapons, strategy, and persistence could let the weak defeat the strong 24 26 33.
His defeats gradually turned this determination into bitterness and ruthlessness. He targeted vulnerable opponents with poisoned weapons, attempted to assassinate Qian Mo, and later accepted the possibility of killing former companions in pursuit of victory 24 31 33 34. Following his loss at the Spirit Arena, he openly rejected Yu Xiaogang’s teachings and prioritized his own survival over Ma Hongjun’s treatment money 35.
Abilities & Skills
Soul Power
Tang San was a Rank 29 Soul Grand Master at age twelve, though his cultivation and resources lagged behind Qian Mo’s group 19 21.
- Absorbed the Soul Ring of a two-thousand-year Man Faced Demon Spider 18.
- His Mysterious Heaven Skill became stuck at a bottleneck during his years as a blacksmith 17.
- Attempted to improve himself by drinking Thousand Year Man Faced Demon Spider venom 32.
- Retained poison residue in his meridians after the Spirit Arena battle 35 36.
Mysterious Heaven Techniques
Tang San uses techniques from the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record and other Tang Sect teachings.
- Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track Step — evasive footwork used against Zhao Wuji and during his escape from Suotuo City 24 35.
- Purple Demon Eye — an ocular technique used to target weak points and observe Soul Power; its overuse strained his eyes 18 22.
- Mysterious Jade Hand — hardens his hand for close combat 31 36.
- Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon — a grappling technique used during combat 24 31 36.
- His techniques proved insufficient against the raw physical strength of Zhao Wuji and Qian Mo’s interference 24 29.
Hidden Weapons and Poisons
Tang San relies heavily on concealed projectiles, mechanisms, and lethal toxins.
- Used willow-leaf blades, bone-piercing nails, locust stones, sleeve arrows, and dragon-whisker needles 18 24 29.
- Fired poisoned projectiles at Zhao Wuji’s eyes and groin during a sparring assessment 24.
- Attempted to assassinate Qian Mo with the King of Hell’s Post, a poison described as fatal upon entering the bloodstream 31.
- Used the Godly Zhuge Crossbow to fire sixteen poisoned bolts at Xiao Wu and Ning Rongrong; the Law of Causality: Reversal sent all sixteen back into his body 34.
- His reliance on hidden weapons was repeatedly criticized by Qian Mo as dependence on external tools rather than personal strength 24.
Equipment
- Twenty-Four Bridges Moonlight Night — storage Soul Tool used to carry his hidden weapons; taken from his corpse by the Wind Baboon 19 24 36.
- Godly Zhuge Crossbow — Tang Sect crossbow capable of firing sixteen poisoned bolts; destroyed by the time he entered the Soul Hunting Forest 34 36.
- Dragon-whisker needles — fine concealed needles; one thrown by Qian Mo shattered a boulder from within 24.
- King of Hell’s Post — potent poison used in Tang San’s attempted assassination of Qian Mo 31.
- Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record — dog-eared manual he consulted while recovering at Shrek Academy 30.

- Xiao Wu — His sworn sister and travelling companion. Their bond ended after Xiao Wu chose Qian Mo’s protection and crushed Tang San’s comb 30 31.
