Background / History
Tang San was born amid tragedy. His mother, Ah Yin, sacrificed herself to ensure his survival after Qian Xunji pursued his family, while his father Tang Hao severely wounded Qian Xunji and fled with the newborn Tang San. The revelation of this history leaves Tang San humiliated and resentful over his parents' fate and his hybrid heritage 2.
He grew up in Holy Spirit Village under Tang Hao's neglect. As a child, Tang San cared for his drunken father and prepared for his own Martial Soul Awakening, while Old Jack showed him concern absent from Tang Hao's parenting 7 11. He worked as a blacksmith to earn Copper Soul Coins, including money to buy carrots for Xiao Wu 14.
After awakening Twin Martial Souls—Blue Silver Grass and the Clear Sky Hammer—he kept the hammer as a concealed trump card. When Yu Xiaogang recognized his Twin Martial Souls, the six-year-old Tang San initially considered killing him to protect the secret; he ultimately accepted Yu as his master for cultivation knowledge and assistance obtaining a soul ring 13 30 31.
Appearance
Tang San is shown dressed in blue in his later confrontation with Feng Xiaotian, with a refined demeanor. His Blue Silver King bloodline awakening later transforms his appearance 95 157.
- Wields Blue Silver Grass, later identified as the Blue Silver Grass Emperor 157.
- Keeps the Clear Sky Hammer in his left hand as a hidden Martial Soul 13 19.
- Possesses the Eight Spider Lances, a grotesque External Soul Bone manifested after absorbing a Man Faced Demon Spider soul ring 16.
Personality
Tang San is resilient, resourceful, and intensely driven to become stronger. He endures a deprived childhood, life-threatening soul-ring absorption, the City of Slaughter, and battles against overwhelmingly dangerous opponents 11 28 40 121.
His desire for strength is repeatedly entangled with humiliation and jealousy toward Tang Shan. After receiving Tang Shan's God-Given Soul Ring, he resolves to use its power to eventually bring Tang Shan down 28. The Heavenly Screen also exposes a colder side: as a child he is prepared to kill to preserve his secrets, and in the City of Slaughter he prioritizes survival even when Hu Liena becomes a burden 30 40.
He is deeply attached to Xiao Wu and vows to protect her when her identity places her in danger. Her sacrifice devastates him and leaves him consumed by guilt over failing to save her 36 37.

Story Role / Major Arcs
Heavenly Screen Comparison
Tang San is the Original World's subject in a continent-wide comparison with Tang Shan of the Current World. The screen labels him “Hidden Weapon dependent, hypocrite with double standards, disciple of Yu Xiaogang,” in contrast to Tang Shan as the “Lord of Life and Destruction” and rejuvenator of the Clear Sky Sect 1.
The repeated comparisons force Tang San to relive his poverty, limited training resources, difficult soul-ring absorption, and dependence on hidden weapons beside Tang Shan's privileged and effortless progress. These displays repeatedly intensify Tang San's shame, envy, and determination 16 28 34 99 101.
Xiao Wu's Crisis
When Xiao Wu's hundred-thousand-year soul ring is exposed, Tang San tries to protect her against enemies far beyond his strength. A future vision shows him cornered by Martial Soul Hall's Golden Generation and Titled Douluos 22 36.
Xiao Wu ultimately sacrifices herself, merging her soul with Tang San to give him a hundred-thousand-year soul ring and soul bone. Tang San survives but views her death as proof of his failure 37.
City of Slaughter and Hell Road
Tang San spends two years in the City of Slaughter, achieving one hundred victories before escaping badly wounded and psychologically scarred. His conduct there reveals both sharp survival instincts and a willingness to place Hu Liena at risk for his own survival 40.
On Hell Road, he and Hu Liena defeat the Ten Headed Fierce Yang Serpent and obtain its inner core 98 99.
Path to Godhood
Tang San struggles for the Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud and pursues godhood through difficult trials and calculated effort 119. He defeats the Deep Sea Demonic Whale King in the Sea God's Eighth Trial at immense cost 121.
Thousands of years later, he becomes a God King in the God Realm. The Heavenly Screen's depiction of his inaction during the Blue Silver King's death shocks his earlier self, who is horrified by this cold future version of himself 95 96.
Trivia
- Tang San nearly chokes to death on a cold, hard steamed bun given to him by Yu Xiaogang 31.
- He defeats Wang Sheng as a child with enough force that, had he not stopped, Wang Sheng's arm might have been crippled 30.
- His victory over the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger relies on hidden weapons after the beast's domain reduces him to a child and drains his spirit power 90.
