Background / History
Sky City was founded after Qin Yuan selected the abandoned An Chong City as the base for his new force. The site lay in a demon-infested wasteland between the Southern Ridge and West Ridge; Tang Yue handled the required procedures, while Feng Ling'er led reconstruction efforts. Qin Yuan named the new territory after Tianshan, replacing “mountain” with “city.” 177
The territory became usable after the Magic Wolf Clan and White Demon Eagle Tribe left the area, allowing Qin Yuan to secure it before other interested factions could purchase it. 209 Its early reconstruction retained the old city’s foundation while combining ancient architectural styling with modern magical technology. 210
Sky City's sudden appearance attracted families and rogue cultivators who established shops, residences, and business operations without permission. Qin Yuan initially allowed the encroachment to stimulate development, then seized control of the infiltrators through the Star Whisper Heavenly Tree and the God Devouring Larvae. The Wu Family and several other families subsequently integrated into Sky City, transforming it into a major regional force. 211 216 220
Huaxia's Imperial Capital later warned outside organizations not to interfere with Sky City, effectively placing it under official protection. 221 Its territory, infrastructure, and military strength continued expanding until it became an official representative force and a major power in the Magic World. 470 654
Territory and Layout
Sky City originally covered nearly 50 square kilometers within its walls, with an additional 150 square kilometers outside them, for a total of roughly 200 square kilometers. 210 Its territory later expanded with official support to an area comparable to a province, and eventually encompassed several hundred kilometers around Sky Abyss Forest. 469 664
Urban Design
Sky City combines ancient-style low buildings with taller modern structures, creating an intentionally blended aesthetic rather than a separation between old and new. Its gray-white paved streets, obsidian borders, decorative walls, shops, and residences were largely built during its early reconstruction. 210 211
The city is divided into three progressively larger zones:
| Area | Function |
|---|---|
| Core Area | The two-kilometer area surrounding Sky Abyss Forest; Qin Yuan and his close associates' private territory. Entry requires permission. |
| Inner City | Managed and guarded by Sky City's core personnel; surveillance and strict control are maintained over residents and visitors. |
| Outer City | A commercial and residential district developed to recruit personnel, train mages, and facilitate trade. Its perimeter is defended by Sky City's mage corps. |
Sky Abyss Forest
Sky Abyss Forest is Sky City's central sanctuary and the location of Qin Yuan's residence, Sky Abyss Garden. 212 It is anchored by the Star Whisper Heavenly Tree, whose roots spread beneath the city and provide protection, environmental regulation, and cultivation benefits. 212 334 605
- Heavenly Spirit Treasure Lake — Sky Abyss Lake was transformed with the Earth Sacred Spring and Sacred Spring Jade Stones. It nourishes the forest and gradually improves Sky City's cultivation environment. 334
- Climate regulation — The Star Whisper Heavenly Tree regulates temperatures throughout the areas reached by its roots, keeping the city comfortable despite winter cold. 605
- Natural defense — By the time of its later growth, the tree's crown covered the entire Inner City and half of the Outer City. 695
- Elemental nurturing — The tree can nurture Elemental Holy Spirits, including Yan Ji and Bi Ji. 696 745
Governance and Membership
Sky City is centrally governed under Qin Yuan's authority. He explicitly rejects internal factionalism, stating that Sky City has only one voice: his own. 226
- Qin Yuan — Founder and Lord of Sky City; determines its military, political, and territorial direction. 209 226
- Feng Ling'er — Oversaw the reconstruction of An Chong City and later assists with internal arrangements. 177 212
- Mu Nu Xin — Planned the Inner City's allocations and helped develop Sky City's commercial and administrative systems. 231
- Li Man — Trains the developing Magic Wolf Mage and Magic Eagle Mage forces. 231
- Qin Yuer — Manages major affairs and military decisions in Qin Yuan's absence. 691 726
Sky City distinguishes between two membership categories:
- Elite members — Usually accept control by the God Devouring Larva in exchange for superior resources and benefits.
- Ordinary members — Retain their independence and are not coerced into accepting control, but receive fewer benefits.
Military Forces
Beast-Taming Forces
Sky City's defining strength is its ability to tame and deploy demons, including Monarch-level creatures. Qin Yuan initially concealed control over the Magic Wolf Clan and White Demon Eagle Tribe, intending to use them as the foundation of Sky City's future military development. 211 276
- Magic Wolf Clan — Controlled by Qin Yuan and intended to support the Magic Wolf Mage corps. 211 216
- White Demon Eagle Tribe — Controlled by Qin Yuan and used as the basis for aerial forces. 211 231
- Sea East Green God — A Totem Beast settled among the White Demon Eagles; it became one of the tribe's leaders. 333
- Magic Eagle Mage Corps — Mounted aerial mages operating alongside flying demons. 585 719
- Magic Wolf Mage Corps — Ground forces paired with wolf mounts. 216 585
- Sky Tiger Mages — A planned outer-perimeter defensive force. 213
Sky City also shelters several Totem Beasts, including the Totem Sacred Tiger, Totem Black Snake, Sea East Green God, and Moon Moth Phoenix. 470
By the Sea Demon war, Hua Zhanhong estimated that Sky City possessed more than ten Emperor-grade entities, around a hundred Great Monarch- and Supreme Monarch-level tamed beasts, and numerous Forbidden Mages. 714
Defensive Operations
The Star Whisper Heavenly Tree's roots extend across the southern coastline, allowing Sky City to use its plant-based defenses far beyond the city itself. 726 727 Sky City's mage and tamed-beast reinforcements later joined the defense of Sea Battle City against the Sea Demon invasion. 727
Sky Abyss Pavilion
Sky Abyss Pavilion is Sky City's external organization and primary instrument for international expansion.
- Mochizuki Chikaori established an early branch in Osaka and began absorbing smaller local forces. 415
- Qin Yuan directed the organization to expand throughout the Island Nation and beyond, supplying resources and connections while leaving regional management to local leaders. 415
- Sky Abyss Pavilions later operated internationally as hidden branches of Sky City's influence. 585
- The pavilion became a major global organization alongside the Hunter Alliance and Mage Association, with its influence extending into coastline defense and international affairs. 655
Spatial Wormholes
Sky City uses spatial wormholes to connect distant territories and strengthen its network.
- A wormhole connecting Sky Abyss Forest to the Parthenon Temple enables travel between the two locations within moments. 469
- Qin Yuan later opened a wormhole between Sky City and Holy City, allowing rapid travel between the two powers. 627
- Sky City's growing network of wormholes enables Qin Yuan to manage distant territories without extended travel. 582 585
