Background / History
Ding Yumian was adopted by Dean Fu and grew up under his protection. Her Mind Element was also a Calamity ability capable of controlling the thoughts of living beings through exceptionally high spiritual power. During an earlier eruption, she killed many innocent teachers and students, leaving her afraid to use the power and causing Dean Fu to restrict her movements for her own safety 60 76.
She enrolled at Pearl Academy and quickly became known for her beauty, talent, and dangerous Mind Element. She was in the same year as Qin Yuan, whom she initially regarded as an irritating but unusually capable classmate. She also admitted that Qin Yuan was the person she liked most when asked about her preferences 60 63.
Ding Yumian challenged Qin Yuan in the Beast Fighting Iron Cage after he revealed that he knew about her Calamity and offered to introduce her to another survivor. Their wager stated that Qin Yuan would introduce her to the other survivor if she won, while she would follow him if she lost. Qin Yuan defeated her by using rapid Lightning Element spells to interrupt her Mind Element casting 69 70 71.
Qin Yuan subsequently brought her to meet Qin Yuer, another former Calamity Survivor. Qin Yuer’s example helped Ding Yumian understand that her condition could be controlled rather than merely suppressed. Ding Yumian began accepting her Psychic Calamity and gradually shifted her cultivation focus toward the Mind Element 76 77 92.
Her relationship with Qin Yuan developed from teasing and rivalry into mutual affection. After returning from a prolonged cultivation period, Qin Yuan confessed his position before Ding Yumian’s grandfather, Dean Fu, and promised not to abandon her. Their relationship was formally accepted despite Dean Fu’s concerns about the dangers surrounding her Calamity identity 101 102.
Ding Yumian later graduated early from Pearl Academy and joined Qin Yuan in Sky City. Her cultivation continued to advance rapidly, eventually carrying her from High-level Mage to Archmage and later to the Forbidden Mage realm 122 224 231 457 755.
Appearance
Ding Yumian is portrayed as a stunning young woman with a gentle, youthful appearance. She has glossy black hair, fair snowy skin, bright clear eyes, and a slender figure. Her simple clothing—such as a white T-shirt, black shorts, and white shoes—contrasts with her unusually striking beauty 63 75.
Distinguishing features include:
- Exceptionally beautiful and widely admired at Pearl Academy 60 63.
- A gentle, “white moonlight” temperament that contrasts with her dangerous Calamity power 75.
- A shy, bashful expression when embarrassed, particularly around Qin Yuan 75 105.
- Her appearance becomes even more youthful and beautiful after taking the Youth-preserving Pill 92 101.
Personality
Ding Yumian is cautious and emotionally restrained because strong fluctuations in her emotions can endanger her control over the Mind Calamity. She is afraid of repeating the disaster that killed innocent people, but she also longs for the freedom to travel and live normally 76 77.
Despite her shyness, she is not passive. She challenges Qin Yuan directly, responds to his teasing with anger or sarcasm, and eventually learns to tease him in return. Her anger during their duel never causes her to lose control, which Dean Xiao views as a positive sign for her mental stability 71 72.
She values sincerity over superficial attraction and is capable of genuine admiration, as shown by her respect for Qin Yuer’s mastery of her own Calamity. Ding Yumian is also curious, affectionate, and loyal to the people who give her a sense of friendship and belonging 63 76 77.
