Nature and Function

Soul Power is an invisible force cultivated within a person's Soul Sea. It is described as a gift from the gods that allows a person to surpass ordinary human limits and pursue ultimate strength 30.

Every person possesses a Soul Sea, which grows as Soul Power is cultivated. If the amount of Soul Power exceeds the Soul Sea's capacity, the Soul Sea can crack or explode; destruction of the Soul Sea permanently prevents further Soul Power cultivation 30.

Demon Spirit Masters use Soul Power to cultivate their Soul Seas and, after integrating a Demon Spirit, draw upon that spirit's power in combat. A possessed Demon Spirit can grant its user's physical traits, abilities, and elemental powers 1.

Soul Sea

Colors, Attributes, and Forms

Soul Seas are commonly classified by seven colors: red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, and purple. Conventional teaching treats higher colors as more favorable for Soul Power cultivation, with green and cyan regarded as signs of exceptional talent 4.

Nie Li rejects the idea that Soul Sea color alone determines a cultivator's potential. He considers a Soul Sea's elemental attribute, form, and compatible cultivation technique more important than its color 13.

• Red Soul Sea — Commonly considered the weakest type; Shen Xiu claims it becomes increasingly difficult to exceed 600 Soul Power, though Nie Li disputes that it is inherently inferior 13 14.
• Thunder Fire / Sky Dragon Thundercloud — Du Ze's attribute and Soul Sea form; suited to Thunder Fire techniques, inscriptions, and Sky Dragon Spirit Beasts 13.
• Chaos / Crimson Sun — Lu Piao's attribute and Soul Sea form; his rare Chaos attribute is suited to the Chaos Sacred Spirit Codex 13.
• Wind Thunder / Winged Dragon — Xiao Ninger's attribute and form; the winged dragon form is described as an exceptionally rare talent 19.

Capacity

A Soul Sea contains and develops alongside its user's Soul Power. Beginner Soul Crystals can be used until a cultivator exceeds 500 Soul Power; afterward, an Intermediate Soul Crystal is required 13.

The Heavenly Dao Divine Art allows Nie Li's Soul Sea to hold up to seven Demon Spirits of different attributes, rather than the single Spirit Beast normally accommodated by ordinary cultivation techniques 14.

Cultivation

Cultivation Techniques

A compatible cultivation technique can dramatically improve Soul Power growth. Nie Li teaches specialized techniques based on each cultivator's Soul Sea attribute and form, arguing that a poor match slows cultivation regardless of innate talent 13.

• Heavenly Dao Divine Art — Designed for Nie Li's attribute-less Soul Sea. It is difficult and initially slow, but enables cultivation of all attributes and the fusion of seven Demon Spirits 14.

Abilities and Applications

Soul Sea Assault

Before a cultivator fuses with a Demon Spirit, Soul Power has no substantial offensive form and is generally used to bombard an opponent's Soul Sea directly 30.

• A sufficiently powerful attack can overload, crack, or destroy an enemy's Soul Sea 30.
• Condensing Soul Power into a narrow beam can pierce and collapse a larger but dispersed Soul Power attack 17.
• Nie Li uses a concentrated Soul Power strike to disrupt the Spirit Beast inside a Spirit Level Green Arm Giant Ape, temporarily freezing its movements 35.
• Direct assaults between Demon Spirit Masters are dangerous because Soul Sea destruction ends the victim's path as a Soul Power cultivator 30.

Soul Sea Sealing and Absorption

Nie Li can seal his Soul Sea before reaching Bronze rank, an ability normally associated with Silver- or Gold-rank Demon Spirit Masters 30.

• Sealing the Soul Sea traps invading Soul Power inside it 30.
• Trapped Soul Power can be gradually refined and absorbed by the defender 30 31.

Soul Power Manifestation

Soul Power Manifestation occurs when Soul Power reaches an exceptional degree of purity. It is rare even among Gold-rank Demon Spirit Masters 26.

• Xiao Ninger manifests streams of Soul Power around her body and transparent wing-like shapes behind her 26.
• Her manifestation appears at Bronze rank, astonishing her family's Gold-rank experts 26.
• The Winged Dragon Family considers manifestation at Bronze rank rarer than possessing a Cyan Soul Sea and treats it as proof of super-genius potential 26.
• Practitioners capable of manifestation are believed to possess the potential to reach at least Gold, Black Gold, or possibly Legendary rank 26.

Measurement

Soul Crystals measure a cultivator's Soul Power and can reveal hidden Soul Sea traits.

• Each visible light speck inside a Soul Crystal represents one point of Soul Power 13.
• An unused Soul Crystal gives the most accurate result when used by one person 12.
• Reusing a crystal on multiple people interferes with its precision, leaving it able to estimate only Soul Sea level and Soul Power strength 12.
• Proper testing can reveal a Soul Sea's color, elemental attribute, and form 12 13.

Limitations and Risks

• A Soul Sea can be overloaded if incoming Soul Power exceeds its capacity, potentially causing permanent destruction 30.
• Poor cultivation techniques may damage meridians and obstruct Soul Power cultivation; Xiao Ninger's original technique worsened her Extreme Cold Syndrome 7.
• Cultivating late at night with insufficient Soul Power can produce harmful side effects 26.
• Soul Power cultivation alone does not replace physical training. A weak body may be unable to withstand the power of a Demon Spirit after fusion 24.
• Soul Power quantity does not guarantee victory. Nie Li defeats Shen Yue despite possessing less than half of Shen Yue's Soul Power through superior control and concentration 17.
