Background / History

The Space first appears when it synchronizes Trialist No. 4444 with The Walking Dead scenario and offers a beginner's guide. It evaluates entrants through attributes, real-world abilities, and an overall strength rating before assigning them to a survival trial 1.

Its headquarters is Las Vegas, a vast contractor city where survivors of scenario worlds trade, train, gamble, buy equipment, and prepare for their next deployment. Contractors are treated as mercenaries who travel through film, game, and other dimensional worlds to survive and evolve 32. The system's recurring demands are uncompromising: Contractors must enter designated story worlds on a regular cycle, and it offers no guarantee of safety or survival 683.

System Failures and External Crisis

A major transporter malfunction prevents Contractors from returning to reality, temporarily severing the connection between the two dimensions. The Space provides free accommodation and leisure worlds during the emergency, but warns that Contractors stranded outside the Space when a deployment begins will be eliminated 347.

Later, the system acknowledges that more than 95% of its active story worlds have suffered difficulty discrepancies, causing abnormal deaths among 25.1% of Contractors. Its main computer begins corrective measures and provides undisclosed survival benefits to those who remain alive 382.

After Kirk's team exposes hostile space viruses, the Space recognizes their Virus Eradication Bounty Mission and investigates the evidence through its Security Committee 529 531. The investigation identifies the Betelgeuse alien race as the attacker, leading the Space to challenge it to a race-level Space War 531. Earth Space's victory subsequently expands Las Vegas and raises its capacity for higher-ranked Contractors 599 683.

The Space later announces that Earth has been destroyed and convenes its Security Committee to preserve order among humanity's remaining Contractors 970. Its situation worsens when the God of the Universe abandons Earth Space, cutting off the external support that had sustained Las Vegas and its story-world operations 972.

Rules and Enforcement

• Contractors are generally protected from direct harm while inside their hotel rooms. A room may only be entered through the owner's blood-red room card after death and a successful [Plunder] action; unauthorized entry is treated as an offense against The Space 32.
• In Space Wars, attacks against Contractors from the same Space are prohibited. A first offense temporarily reduces all attributes by 20%, a second permanently reduces them by 50%, and a third results in obliteration 103.
• Mission failure, refusal of compulsory participation, and certain violations can result in direct erasure. During the Orion war, non-participants faced forced annihilation ten seconds after the battle began 536.
• The Space can mediate private team conflicts when losses threaten its high-end combat strength. It intervened after losses reached more than a quarter of its Reincarnator-and-above population, imposing a ceasefire and penalties for renewed hostility 717 718 719.
• Its enforcement prioritizes institutional assets over fairness. The Space permits conflict between Contractors when it is controlled, but treats prolonged internal wars as theft of its trained manpower and resources 718.
• Military rank grants status and practical privileges, including access to rank equipment, subsidies, materials, and paid world-title information 37 176.

• Survival Points — Primary currency for equipment, medicine, skill upgrades, services, and trading in Las Vegas 32 34.
• Crystals / Soul Crystals — High-value currency used by Veterans and Reincarnators for skill upgrades, equipment upgrades, and ultimate skills 162.
• Keys — Can be opened for equipment, turned in for rewards, traded, auctioned, or gambled on; their assessed value is determined by The Space 33.
• World Legend — A reward for deep scenario exploration, hidden missions, titles, and major accomplishments. It can unlock access to the Space Exchange 534.
• Equipment gambling — Unappraised equipment can be auctioned as a “big gamble” with only its grade known, or a “small gamble” with partial information revealed 32.

• The Space offers wealth, equipment, entertainment, and advancement, but cannot promise its Contractors safety or life 683.
• Its teleportation network can malfunction severely enough to isolate Contractors from reality and threaten those unable to return before deployment deadlines 347.
• Its world data can be corrupted or externally disrupted, causing unintended difficulty increases and widespread Contractor casualties 175 382.
• The unique [Valkyrie Brunhilde's Soul Summoning Stone] operates outside ordinary system expectations; its use to remove important plot characters causes the Space's calculations to become chaotic 534.
• Las Vegas depends on immense external energy and material support. The loss of the God of the Universe's backing endangers the Space's ability to sustain daily life and story worlds 972.
