Background
Dongshu was formerly an overworked game-company salaryman on Earth. After his computer exploded while he was working late, he reincarnated as an infant in a family from Tokiwa City, Kanto, carrying the code he had created as the Shock Value System. 1
His human parents, Matsuda and Yumiko, were killed by Pokémon Hunters while attempting to protect Pokémon and escape with him. Dongshu survived by pretending to be dead until Entei—then known to him as Fire Emperor—rescued him from the wrecked car. 1 68
Entei sheltered him from the cold, fed him Berries, and tried to bring him to a human town. Unable to leave the orphaned infant behind, Entei instead took him to Heavenly Green Mountain and chose to raise him as his child. 2 5
Marshadow later revealed that Dongshu's deceased parents had named him after a winter tree, hoping he would stand tall and remain unyielding through wind and snow. Entei, Raikou, and Marshadow accepted the name together. 26 27
Ho-Oh eventually permitted Dongshu to remain on Heavenly Green Mountain, trained him, and came to regard him as the Rainbow Hero it had sought to raise. 37 46 63
Appearance
Dongshu began the story as an infant with wide, dark, glistening eyes. Under Entei's care, he grew into a healthy, sturdy boy; he is ten years old when he begins his journey as a Trainer. 1 49 63
- Dark, glistening eyes as an infant. 1
- Physically small and weak during his earliest months, unable to hold onto Entei's back for long. 3
- Able to walk independently by one year and four months old. 15
- Described as healthy and sturdy by age six. 49
Personality
Dongshu is kind by instinct and repays care with care. He shares scarce Moomoo Milk with Entei and Marshadow, helps a Cubone choking on a Berry pit, feeds and heals injured Wild Pokémon, and promises to help Ancient Dragonite reunite with companions lost to time. 8 11 14 94 96
His previous life gives him practical knowledge and a resourceful mindset. He plans ahead for winter food, plants Berry trees, renovates his home, develops farmland, and seeks ways to earn Shock Points efficiently. 8 19 23 46
Despite his maturity, Dongshu can be mischievous and shamelessly cute when it benefits him. He exploits the surprise of Wild Pokémon with a magic show, relies on his harmless appearance to disarm his guardians, and treats the Legendary Beasts with uninhibited affection. 19 22
He deeply values his Pokémon family and wants to become strong enough to protect them rather than remain under their protection forever. This motivation drives his decision to travel and become a Pokémon Trainer. 33 53 101
