Background / History

Su Yi found Combusken in its Torchic stage resting alone in the Spirit Primal Forest. Though initially wounded and exhausted after being defeated by Frogadier, it accepted Su Yi as its trainer and was treated with a Stamina Potion. 6 7

Torchic began with Blue Qualification, but Su Yi used a Qualification Upgrade Card to elevate it to Purple Qualification. The upgrade enabled it to awaken Flame Vortex before evolution, a move that surprised opposing trainers. 9 11

It evolved after defeating Ambipom at the entrance to Thundercloud Mountain. As Combusken, it quickly became one of Su Yi's principal combatants, fighting the Murong Family's trainers, protecting a flock of Mareep from Murong Qianjin's Flabébé, and helping Trapinch defeat an enraged Ampharos. 11 12 13

Following the graduation trial, Combusken continued to train under Su Yi. It gained Speed Boost through a Hidden Ability Activation Card, allowing its speed to rise after each action, and later evolved into Blaziken after defeating Luo Jing's Fire Lion in the freshman class battle final. 31 47

Personality

Combusken is obedient and responsive to Su Yi's commands, readily approaching when called and acknowledging tactical instructions during battle. 31 21

It is highly competitive. After Frogadier evolved, Combusken felt pressure not to fall behind its teammate and showed eagerness to reach its own next evolution. 46

Alongside Frogadier, Combusken acts as a senior member of Su Yi's team, cheering for and looking after the younger Larvitar and Beldum. 45
