Uchiha Mai built his taijutsu skills, awakened his Sharingan, and won a place on Namikaze Minato’s team by defeating the other candidates. The arc left Mai beginning his training with Kakashi and Might Guy while Fugaku gave him an annotated Fire Style scroll to study.

• Sarutobi Hiruzen watched Uchiha Mai defeat Sarutobi Asuma in a spar and praised Mai’s battle intelligence.
• Mai spent Style Points on new abilities, developed his own fighting style, and trained with Might Duy and Might Guy, eventually defeating Guy after he opened a Gate.
• Mai graduated from the Ninja Academy and, during Minato’s selection exercise, defeated Asuma, Obito, Rin, and Kurenai, then argued that he and Guy deserved places on the team.
• Minato selected Mai and Guy as his students and introduced them to Kakashi, while Mai recognized Hatake Sakumo’s extraordinary stealth and worried that his death might be near.
• Minato brought Kushina to celebrate with the new team, then scheduled cooperative training as Mai’s Style Points increased.
• Fugaku gave Mai Uchiha Izuna’s annotated Fire Style scroll and encouraged him to surpass Kakashi as Minato’s finest disciple.
• Mai learned the Great Fireball Technique from Fugaku on his first attempt, demonstrated his powerful kick against a dummy, and left with the scroll.

Uchiha Mai developed his Oniyaki technique, joined Minato’s team on a mission to retrieve Tsunade, and helped defeat the Kumogakure squad targeting her. After the team returned to Konoha, Hiruzen ordered Sakumo to investigate and purge the Anbu following its intelligence failure.

• Mai developed the 100th Style: Oniyaki with Minato’s guidance, and Minato led Mai, Kakashi, and Guy to request an A-Rank mission.
• Hiruzen sent Minato’s team to Tanzaku Town to bring Tsunade back or protect her, and Mai negotiated a gambling challenge that persuaded Tsunade to return.
• Enemies ambushed Tsunade on the road, but Mai and Minato drove them off, and Minato pursued the attackers with Mai while Kakashi and Guy guarded Tsunade.
• Minato and Mai exposed Narita Daisaku’s ambush, and Mai defeated Kurokawa before killing Narita Daisaku with Oniyaki.
• Minato’s team returned to Konoha with Tsunade, and Mai learned that his system had unlocked a One-and-a-Half-Star Prize Pool.
• Hiruzen questioned Sakumo about the Anbu’s failure to detect the Kumogakure squad and ordered him to investigate every intelligence station and purge the Anbu.

Uchiha Mai joined Hatake Sakumo’s Anbu mission, helped capture the traitor Hasegawa, and witnessed Sakumo force Yugito Nii out of her Two-Tails form. After Sakumo resigned and Mai gained new abilities, Sarutobi Hiruzen chose him to represent Konoha in the upcoming Chunin exam, with Jiraiya assigned as his teacher.

• Sarutobi Hiruzen assigned Minato to serve as acting Anbu director if Hatake Sakumo could no longer command, while Danzo unsuccessfully demanded the position for himself or Orochimaru.
• Uchiha Mai trained with Tsunade before Minato, Kakashi, and Might Guy joined him for an S-Rank mission to clear compromised intelligence stations and capture the traitor Hasegawa.
• Mai and Kakashi split from Minato’s team to attack an outpost, killed its defenders, and accidentally destroyed the station’s backup records during the fight.
• Minato’s team found Sakumo’s unit battling Hidden Cloud forces and Yugito Nii, whose Two-Tails transformation overwhelmed Konoha’s fighters and killed Qiongyue.
• Sakumo chose to return to the battlefield rather than pursue Hasegawa, then sent Mai and Kakashi after the fugitive while Minato and the others held off Yugito and the Cloud ninja.
• Mai and Kakashi fought Hasegawa together, captured him alive after a fierce battle, and returned to see Sakumo defeat Yugito’s transformed state with Dōjigiri Yasutsuna.
• Sakumo and Yugito agreed to stop fighting, Hidden Cloud withdrew, and Konoha returned with Hasegawa as Sakumo later resigned and Minato became acting Anbu Minister.
• Mai gained Litwick’s Ember by placing it inside his heart, then received a bonus and permission from Hiruzen to learn Super Beast Imitating Drawing.
• Hiruzen postponed Mai’s Chunin promotion so he could represent Konoha in Sunagakure’s exam, and Jiraiya began training him after Mai brought a crude phoenix drawing to life only briefly.

Uchiha Mai developed body-sealed beast techniques, tested them against Kakashi and Might Guy, and helped stage Konoha’s New Year gala. He led the Uchiha exam team to Sunagakure, where a clash with Kaguya Chengze ended with Mei Terumi’s group intervening.

• Uchiha Mai commissioned Kurama Murakumo to paint 666 beasts and eight dragons across his body, and Jiraiya sealed the design into his skin.
• Uchiha Mai tested his new techniques against Kakashi and Might Guy, defeating them quickly but recognizing that his weak body and limited chakra restricted his fighting time.
• Uchiha Mai produced Rin Nohara, Obito, and Kakashi’s gala performance of “Unreachable Love,” and Fugaku later appointed Mai captain of the Uchiha exam team.
• Uchiha Tekka challenged Mai’s appointment, but Mai defeated him in a combat test and won his support for the Chunin Ninja Exams.
• Jiraiya led Konoha’s exam delegation to Sunagakure, where Mai helped him stand firm against Chiyo and assessed Rasa as a dangerous, calculating leader.
• Rasa sent Yashamaru to provoke Kaguya Chengze, and Chengze’s dispute with Asuma escalated into a fight with Mai and the Uchiha team.
• Uchiha Mai overwhelmed Chengze with summoned beasts and Yomi Stroke, but Mei Terumi and her companions froze Chengze and carried him away after he refused to stop fighting.
