Uchiha Mai helped Konoha defeat Iwagakure’s forces, then became entangled in Danzo and Hanzo’s plot against Akatsuki. At Amegakure, Hanzo’s betrayal ended with Yahiko apparently slain, while Mai trapped Hanzo and urged Nagato and Konan to escape.

• Uchiha Mai killed Morishita and Gari, and Orochimaru sent their bodies to Konoha as proof of Mai’s victories.
• Sarutobi Hiruzen promoted Mai to Jonin and ordered him and Orochimaru to drive Iwagakure from the Land of Fire, while Ōnoki ordered Roshi to kill Mai.
• Yahiko, Nagato, and Konan founded Akatsuki as Hanzo and Danzo conspired to ambush them and kill Uchiha Mai.
• Sarutobi Hiruzen chose Mai as Konoha’s representative to Hanzo’s Peace Conference, and Mai accepted Yahiko’s invitation to accompany the trio.
• Hanzo’s forces ambushed Mai and the Akatsuki members in a canyon, and Yahiko realized Hanzo had betrayed them.
• Mai, Nagato, Yahiko, and Konan fought Hanzo and Ibuse, but Ibuse’s poison weakened them as Hanzo gained the advantage.
• When the group tried to retreat, Hanzo slashed Yahiko after he tripped, and Mai trapped Hanzo inside The End of No Ignorance and told Nagato and Konan to go.

Uchiha Mai joined Nagato, Konan, and Sasori to kill Hanzo and take control of the aftermath in Amegakure, then returned to Konoha’s war zone with new eyes and a plan to hunt Roshi. He left the stretch preparing to lead an attack against an Iwagakure unit after a female ninja arrived.

• After Yahiko died, Uchiha Mai led Nagato and Konan to the Land of Rivers, where he placed a bounty to draw Sasori into helping them kill Hanzo.
• Sasori joined Uchiha Mai’s group after testing Nagato’s Rinnegan, and he developed an antidote to Hanzo’s poison.
• Uchiha Mai, Nagato, Konan, and Sasori stormed Amegakure, killed its shinobi, and fought Hanzo across the village.
• Uchiha Mai killed Hanzo and absorbed his life force, while Sasori left with Hanzo’s corpse after failing to claim Ibuse’s body.
• Uchiha Mai gained the Mystic Eyes of Distortion, fused them with his Sharingan, and used Spirit Vision to spot Black Zetsu and destroy part of a mountain.
• After news of Hanzo’s death raised Konoha’s morale, Uchiha Mai returned to the war zone, where Orochimaru challenged him and discovered his eyes’ time-distorting power.
• Orochimaru proposed that he and Uchiha Mai hunt Roshi before Mai returned to Konoha, and Mai agreed to remain in the war zone for up to five days.
• After Yamato reported Iwagakure’s advance and identified its troublesome unit, Uchiha Mai assembled two hundred fighters and set out toward the Rock Shinobi encampment after a tall, fair-skinned female ninja arrived.

Uchiha Mai defeated Roshi and wounded Ōnoki before returning to Konoha, where he gained authority in the Anbu and began teaching the Uchiha. After Mai exposed Black Zetsu's plan to revive Madara, Madara ordered the Zetsu to keep working around Mai and draw him toward the battlefield.

• Uchiha Mai and Orochimaru killed Sato, Ueno, and Ito, then confronted Roshi and defeated him after a fierce battle with the Four-Tails.
• Uchiha Mai pursued Roshi into the Land of Earth, clashed with Ōnoki, and escaped after using Distortion Power to injure Ōnoki from a distance.
• Uchiha Mai returned to Konoha, where Sarutobi Hiruzen appointed him the Anbu's second deputy head after Mai explained his role in Hanzo's death.
• Uchiha Mai took charge of Anbu affairs and agreed to train Itachi and Shisui, while Fugaku arranged Fire Style Nintaijutsu lessons for the Uchiha clan.
• Uchiha Mai discovered Black-and-White Zetsu spying on the Uchiha, and Black Zetsu proposed reviving Uchiha Madara through a young Uchiha with the Mangekyō Sharingan.
• Uchiha Mai fought Black-and-White Zetsu and destroyed their Wood Release attack, while Sarutobi Hiruzen warned Fugaku to keep the clan vigilant.
• Black Zetsu reported Mai's rejection of Madara's revival plan, and Madara ordered the Zetsu to seek an Uchiha successor away from Mai and draw Mai onto the battlefield.

Uchiha Mai confronted Kirigakure’s invasion force alone, defeated the Seven Ninja Swordsmen, and then faced Yagura’s army. After surviving the assault and absorbing his enemies’ life energy, Mai declared that he was only beginning to fight seriously.

• The Third Kazekage prepared Sunagakure for war against Konoha, while Uchiha Mai challenged Danzo and Mitokado Homura’s plans and accused Danzo of plotting against him.
• Sarutobi Hiruzen appointed Hatake Sakumo to command the Sand Front and removed Danzo as Naruto’s advisor, while Mai’s Consciousness-Only: Sharingan awakened as a Mangekyō Sharingan.
• Mai learned his Mangekyō’s techniques, then helped stage Konoha’s New Year gala with Tsunade, Kushina, and Uchiha Masami performing “Pure Land of Bliss.”
• After Konoha’s spies reported Kirigakure’s preparations, Mai revealed his Mangekyō to Hiruzen and led a small force south to intercept the Mist invasion.
• Mai captured Mei Terumi, learned that four thousand Kirigakure ninja were advancing, and sent her to challenge the Seven Ninja Swordsmen and the Mizukage.
• Mai used Susanoo to defeat the Seven Ninja Swordsmen and Kirigakure’s Jonin, then killed several swordsmen with Deathfire and Innate Time Control.
• Yagura ordered his army to attack Mai, but Mai endured their ninjutsu and killed dozens of Kirigakure ninja as Genji urged the Jonin to confront him.
• Mai broke Kisame’s Great Shark Bullet, scattered the attacking Jonin with Deathfire Flame Dragons, and survived a Kaguya ninja’s Dance of the Larch before copying the technique and declaring he was beginning to warm up.
