After securing the position he wanted, Uchiha Mai had more or less figured out Sarutobi Hiruzen's game.

Sarutobi Hiruzen needed Uchiha Mai to have a weakness he could exploit to keep him in line, and Uchiha Mai was happy to make trouble for Danzo.

After speaking with Sarutobi Hiruzen for quite a while longer, Uchiha Mai finally took his leave, rose, and left the Hokage Office.

He had barely stepped out of the office when he ran into Shimura Danzō coming toward him.

Uchiha Mai's return to the village had caused quite a stir. Naturally, Danzo had heard the news, so he was not surprised to see him.

Dressed in black robes, Danzo no longer seemed in any hurry to see Sarutobi Hiruzen. He simply blocked Uchiha Mai's path.

He began provocatively, "Well, if it isn't Konoha's greatest prodigy, Uchiha Mai, who routed the Iwagakure troops.

"Why did you only return today?

"Ten days ago, Hiruzen issued orders summoning you back to the village. You're famous throughout the Ninja World for your speed. Returning to Konoha from the Land of Rain shouldn't take you even a day.

"Subtract the time needed to deliver the message and the time you spent fighting the Iwagakure troops, and you were unaccounted for for at least seven days.

"You even disregarded an urgent summons from the Naruto. Is your Uchiha Clan plotting something, or do you simply have no respect for the Naruto?"

The moment they met, Danzo slapped a damning accusation on Uchiha Mai.

"Am I not allowed to recover from my injuries?"

Uchiha Mai raised his eyebrows and shot back, "Orochimaru should have made it perfectly clear. I fought the Four-Tails' jinchuriki and the Tsuchikage, Ōnoki, one after the other.

"Who do you think I am, Uchiha Madara or the First Hokage?
