Background / History

Lin Jingyu grows up in Cao Miao Village alongside Zhang Xiaofan. He meets Ye Yun while playing near the Grass Temple, then joins Zhang Xiaofan in gathering grain, constructing a bird trap, catching sparrows, and roasting their catch. 3 4 The three later establish a mountain cave as their secret base. 6

During the Cao Miao Village incident, Pu Zhi moves the unconscious Lin Jingyu and Zhang Xiaofan into Ye Yun's cave. Lin Jingyu wakes to find the village burned into ruins and is devastated by the apparent loss of his family and home. 8 Qingyun Sect disciples subsequently take the three children to Qingyun Mountain. 10

At Jade Purity Hall, Lin Jingyu remains composed despite the disaster, directly asking True Master Dao Xuan to deliver justice for the children of Cao Miao Village. 12 He is accepted as a disciple of Dragon Head Peak, separating him from Ye Yun and Zhang Xiaofan, who enter Great Bamboo Peak. 13

Three years later, Lin Jingyu visits Great Bamboo Peak with Qi Hao to relay changes to the Seven Peaks Martial Arts Tournament. His childhood familiarity with Ye Yun remains, though neither treats their brief time together in Cao Miao Village as a particularly close bond. 27

He is generally polite and reserved during his later reunion with Ye Yun. 27 However, his confidence in his own strength can become carelessness: after accidentally injuring Zhang Xiaofan, he bluntly remarks that Zhang Xiaofan was weaker than expected, worsening the humiliation despite his apparent guilt. 29
