Background / History

Early existence and persecution

Created by Saint Nuwa, the Human Race began as a physically vulnerable people without the natural defenses of many primordial races. They lived in scattered tribes, relying on crude shelters and survival skills while facing monster beasts, natural disasters, and stronger races. 1 174 196

During the late Witch-Demon Calamity, humans had migrated to the eastern Primordial World. They remained unable to secure their own survival: the Demon Race regarded them as blood food, while most Acquired Humans lacked a viable cultivation path. 1

Taiqing Laozi established the Human Teaching and left behind the Golden Core Cultivation Method, but accepted only Xuandu as his personal disciple and did not materially improve humanity's condition. The method's demanding requirements left ordinary Acquired Humans unable to cultivate it. 1 10 96

Demon Race slaughter

Di Jun ordered the Demon Race to massacre humans and gather their resentful souls to forge a Witch-Slaying Sword capable of weakening the Witch Clan's physical defenses. Demon forces intentionally pursued fleeing tribes rather than immediately killing them, cultivating fear and resentment. 90

Humans sought refuge at Shouyang Mountain, Phoenix Perch Mountain, and other blessed lands, but neither Taiqing Laozi nor Nuwa intervened. The Three Human Ancestors—Suirenshi, Youchaoshi, and Ziyishi—prepared to resist to the death. 90

Li Qingxu returned through a Gate of Space, killed Demon Gods, confronted Ci Tie, and openly declared his intention to protect the Human Race. Primordial Heavenly Venerate ultimately intervened to avert Donghuang Taiyi's attack, after which Li Qingxu and the Three Ancestors returned tens of billions of displaced humans to their ancestral lands. 91 92 94

Self-reliance through the Dao One Golden Chapter

Concluding that external protection could not secure humanity's future, Li Qingxu created the Dao One Golden Chapter from the Covering the Sky Method, Five Elements insights, and practices developed by resource-poor scattered cultivators. He tested it against the conditions of an ordinary human and designed it to use low-grade herbs, sun and moon essence, perseverance, and Dao Heart. 94 95

Li Qingxu taught the method to hundreds of billions of humans at the Ancestral Altar. The three-month transmission began with breathing, blood qi, and inner observation before progressing through the Wheel Sea, Dao Palace, and Four Poles stages. Its spread brought renewed vitality and hope to the race. 96

Rise of the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors

Dao Ancestor Hongjun declared that the Human Race would become the new protagonist of heaven and earth. The Three Sovereigns would establish standards and the Five Emperors would govern the world, with their teachers and assistants receiving Heavenly Dao Merit. 126

Li Beixuan became the first Co-Lord, the Heavenly Emperor, unifying previously scattered tribes and accelerating their growth through civil development. He later transferred authority to Lieshan Shi, who became Shennong and advanced agriculture and medicine before passing the Co-Lord title to Xuanyuan. 133

Under Xuanyuan, human settlements expanded throughout the western, southern, and northern regions. When Chiyou's resurgent Witch Clan destroyed hundreds of tribes and demanded humanity's withdrawal from the Central Plains, the Human Race organized formations, built South-Pointing Chariots, and allied with the Four Seas Dragon Clan for the Zhuolu war. 134 136 138

Recognition as Lord of Heaven and Earth

The Human Race later responded to a world-spanning flood under Emperor Shun and Da Yu. Their efforts to contain the disaster and protect all living beings earned recognition from the myriad spirits, who acknowledged their responsibility and status as Lord of Heaven and Earth. 164 170

At Tushan, Da Yu declared the Human Race's sovereignty before the Heavenly Dao and hundreds of millions of gathered humans. Li Qingxu then released the Nine Tripods, using them to suppress the Nine Domains, stabilize the mountains and rivers, and anchor humanity's fortune for ten thousand generations. 174

Heavenly Dao Merit strengthened the Human Ancestors, Human Emperors, tribes, and the Nine Tripods. Humanity's luck became firmly stabilized, newborn generations gained improved aptitudes and rare physiques, and society shifted from loosely organized tribes toward roads, cities, and large-scale infrastructure. 175

Great Shang era

By the Great Shang period, Zhaoge housed billions of people and possessed immense life force and Human Emperor Luck. Li Qingxu regarded the Human Emperor's ability to stand on equal footing with the Jade Emperor as essential to humanity's dignity. 196

Li Qingxu remains concerned that the Investiture of the Gods Tribulation could reduce the Human Emperor to a Son of Heaven subordinate to immortals and spirits, undoing the political status humanity had achieved. 176 196
