He had thought Chen Fan was merely a sage born from humble beginnings as a craftsman.
Although he had made great contributions to the development of the human race and helped the Great Tang Dynasty flourish at an astonishing pace,
there was still a long way to go before he could unite the human race under one dynasty and restore the throne of the Human Emperor.
The Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors had sent him out of Huoyun Cave as a mere courtesy.
It would be best if he succeeded, but it would not matter if he failed.
With Kong Qiu walking the mortal world, there would still be hope for the future.
Though that hope was exceedingly slim, it was still better than sitting idle in Huoyun Cave
until the world's end, when the immeasurable tribulation descended.
Only then would the ancient sages of the human race—the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors—leave Huoyun Cave again.
By then, what chance would they have of leading the human race once more and helping it survive that terrifying calamity?
But now, Kong Qiu suddenly realized that the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors had all underestimated Chen Fan.
"The most vital concerns of a state are sacrifices and warfare!"
Only overwhelming power could help the human race achieve unification.
Once everything became an unstoppable tide, even the Saints could only watch as the Human Emperor returned to the world.
Just as King Wu of Zhou had once harnessed the tide of the human race to seal off Huoyun Cave.
The Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors could only watch, too.
"That's a blast furnace. It's used for smelting iron!"
Chen Fan couldn't sense the excitement in Kong Qiu's heart. Instead, he felt something and looked toward Red Boy.
As the creator of the blast furnace, Chen Fan had a connection with the Merit Sacred Artifact, the blast furnace.
Red Boy's arrival was a sign from the Heavenly Dao.
He was the key to correcting the blast furnace's flaw.
"Get rid of that Serpent Fang Purple Flame. I'll take it from here!"
Red Boy leaped into the air and flew above the blast furnace.
He kicked at it, but the Serpent Fang Purple Flame seemed to be alive. It spiraled away in a flash.
Following the flame's path, Red Boy spotted a child who looked very much like him.
A red-robed child, battle-hardened and deadly!
He was Nezha!
Red Boy narrowed his eyes, instantly recognizing Nezha.
"Who are you, kid?"
Nezha didn't recognize Red Boy. Besides, a spiritual treasure was concealing Red Boy's aura.
Red Boy ignored Nezha's question and looked instead at the black smoke rising into the sky.
He inhaled!
Red Boy opened his mouth and sucked in a mighty breath. The thick poisonous smoke poured into his mouth.
Nezha was startled. He sprang into the air and swung the Cosmic Ring in his hand.
"Stop! That stuff corrodes Magic Power and the soul. You can't just eat it!"
Nezha had only one pair of Wind Fire Wheels. He couldn't keep using them as tools to stoke the flames.
So the blast furnace burned coal fuel Chen Fan had bought.
As a result, the black smoke it produced was extremely toxic.
In the Primordial World, coal, iron ore, and other materials all contained baleful energy and waste gases.
After being burned, they were expelled through the blast furnace's chimney.
These fumes could erode Spiritual Energy and disrupt the workings of spiritual energy.
Nezha had been responsible for handling the waste gases during this time, so he knew how vicious they were.
If a cultivator who hadn't yet become an immortal came into contact with the fumes,
more than half of their cultivation would be destroyed.
"Nezha, don't worry!"
Bai Qianli raised a hand, and the Cosmic Ring in Nezha's grasp immediately fell.
Chen Fan's eyes widened as he looked at Bai Qianli again.
He felt he really ought to reconsider what he knew about Bai Qianli.
Anyone who could stop Nezha so easily—even if he wasn't a mighty powerhouse—had to be extraordinary.
"As expected of the Primordial World, where Great Luos are everywhere and Golden Immortals are worth less than dogs.
There are far too many powerful figures. I'd better keep a lower profile!"
Chen Fan muttered under his breath, but Bai Qianli and Kong Dunling heard every word.
Their silence was deafening.
What the hell did he mean, Great Luos everywhere and Golden Immortals worth less than dogs?!
Though powerful figures abounded in the Primordial World, Golden Immortals were already lords of their own domains.
Even the Jade Emperor and Tathagata would show a Grand Unity Golden Immortal considerable respect.
"I should've realized sooner. The Asura and Rakshasa were born in the boundless Blood Sea.
They're born from the resentment, waste gases, and poisons of the Three Realms, and possess all three poisons of greed, hatred, and delusion.
These fumes are deadly poison to us immortal cultivators, but to the Asura, they're a miraculous elixir!"
Bai Qianli shook his head and remarked with the benefit of hindsight.
Kong Dunling raised his brows and examined the blast furnace closely before offering a few words of comfort.
"It's nothing. The Daoist sects dominate the Three Realms, and everyone's focused on finding ways to increase Spiritual Energy.
Who could've guessed that someone would produce resources suitable for the Asura Race?
Humans have been burning charcoal and smelting iron for ages, but no Asura has ever appeared to collect it."
Bai Qianli looked rather peculiar, and inwardly he was at a loss for words.
Buddhism had set its sights on the boundless Blood Sea long ago, launching one campaign after another.
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva had taken up residence in the Pool of Evil Ghosts, encroaching on the Blood Sea.
The powerful Asura were all under Buddhism's watchful eye.
The weaker ones had been eroded by the Blood Sea's baleful energy until they were completely mindless.
After all these years, only an oddball like Princess Iron Fan had appeared.
The princess of the Rakshasa clan of the Blood Sea had cultivated Daoist techniques—and even mastered them.
That was how Red Boy, a Rakshasa hybrid, had come to be.
The moment the blast furnace for smelting iron appeared, the Heavenly Dao stirred.
The Rakshasa Bloodline within Red Boy sensed it, and so he came.
"Princess Iron Fan may be a Rakshasa princess, but her Rakshasa Bloodline has long since been refined away!
Red Boy hasn't come of age yet, so he still has the chance to awaken his Rakshasa Bloodline.
In a few more years—or if a mighty figure enlightens him—that Bloodline will never awaken.
Fate had already been decided in the unseen currents. The workings of fate are truly wondrous!"
A smile appeared on Bai Qianli's face, yet a sorrowful air surrounded him.
Chen Fan's gaze flickered. It seemed Brother Bai had quite a story of his own!
"I don't know if my life is predestined, or if someone is pulling the strings behind the scenes.
All I need to do is make sure that when I look back years from now,
I won't regret having wasted my life doing nothing.
And I won't regret the choices I made!"
"Beautifully said!"
Kong Dunling's eyes lit up. He produced a bamboo scroll and a carving knife,
then swiftly carved Chen Fan's words into the scroll.
Just then, the surface of Clear Water River exploded nearby.
"Roar! Green Carp, you dare intrude on my territory? You're asking to die!"
"Hahaha! Black Catfish, you've hogged such a huge fortune. Aren't you afraid you'll choke on it?"
