Bai Qianli first appears in Qingshi Town as a refined traveler in white, sharing a table with Wei Zheng under the latter's alias, Wei Xuancheng. He claims he has come to witness the rumored peaceful coexistence of humans and demons, but his polished answers and unexplained knowledge of local affairs make Wei Zheng suspect that he is no ordinary traveler. 25 26
