As dusk gradually fell, the men had yet to return. Outside the city, corpses carpeted the ground; atop the walls, blood flowed like a river. Yet the two figures on the ramparts still swung their battle axes like Xing Tian dancing with shield and axe, not retreating a single step.
Watching the scene atop the walls, the ogres below had begun to feel fear and stopped advancing. Just as Saiyba hesitated over whether to make a move now, the two figures who seemed like gods descended to earth finally withdrew.
Saiyba immediately seized the opportunity and shouted for his subordinates to charge. Seeing the two figures retreat, the ogres, like drowning men who had glimpsed hope, rushed madly toward the city walls.
The two men in question, however, were remarkably relaxed.
"Brother Leiluo, I chopped down fifty-six of them. Does that mean you'll treat me to Piggish Foot when we get back?" As he spoke, he smacked his lips, like a starving ghost reborn.
"Ah, sorry about that, Brother Leolox. I chopped down sixty-eight." Leiluo spoke with some pride.
"Hey, little brother, are there even any Heroic Rank ogres among them? Why haven't they made a move no matter how many we kill?" Having heard that he had lost, Leolox hurriedly changed the subject.
Though Leiluo knew Leolox was trying to change the subject, he went along with it. After all, he knew there truly was a Heroic Rank Ogre Mage on the other side.
"Maybe he's saving his strength to deal with the Behemoths. We can set the fire now, right?"
Leolox looked at the ramparts, now packed with ogres due to their retreat, while more were still climbing up, then nodded at Leiluo.
Relying on their Gold Tier physiques, the two leaped straight down from the wall. As they fell, they tossed fire starters onto the wall behind them. In an instant, the battlements, coated in beast oil, were swallowed by a sea of flames.
The ogres already on the walls hurriedly shoved one another, trying to retreat the way they had come. The unfortunate ogres who had just climbed up had no idea what was happening; before they could even steady themselves, they were pushed off the wall by their companions and fell to their deaths.
Only the lucky ogres who had not yet begun climbing, or had not climbed very high, escaped disaster. Even so, many were killed or injured when their companions leaped down from the walls and crashed into them.
Saiyba, witnessing this scene, was already beside himself with rage, yet he could only watch helplessly.
"Leiluo, once I break in, I'll kill you! Kill you!" Saiyba shouted, his face twisted.
Seeing the blazing inferno behind them, Leiluo and Leolox no longer lingered and ran toward the second line of defense.
After a long while, the fire was finally extinguished through the ogres' efforts. But the smell of roasted meat lingering in the air, along with the charred corpses tangled together, still showed everyone what had just happened.
Seeing his demoralized subordinates, Saiyba had no choice but to use Bloodlust Sorcery to stir up the ogres' fervor. Then, after killing several who tried to flee with Fireball, he finally gave the ogres the courage to continue their attack.
"Don't be afraid. I promise you, once this is done, I will give you even greater power!" As he spoke, Saiyba took out a bottle of Demon Blood and forced it down an ogre's throat. At first, the ogre clutched his neck and hunched over in agony. But when he rose again, his face was twisted with savagery. He suddenly grabbed an ogre beside him and tore him apart, sending the other ogres into a frenzy.
"Roar! For power, kill!"
"Kill!"
Only when he saw the ogres stirred up by him once more did Saiyba finally let out a sigh of relief.
Outside Bandar City, two of the five black-robed orcs had already fallen. The remaining three huddled together, discussing their options.
"What do we do? We were too arrogant. The Felhounds can't track Zephyr Step. At this rate, all three of us will die."
"Yeah, boss. Say something."
Hearing the two men, the black-robed orc called boss raised his head. His venomous eyes fixed on them. "That's right. At this rate, we'll all die. Help your big brother out—I don't want to die yet!"
As he spoke, the boss's hands had already plunged into their chests. Facing their incredulous stares, he merely wiped his hands on their clothes before taking a bottle of green potion from his robe and drinking it in one gulp.
Lantresuo's heart lurched at the sight. The moment he activated Zephyr Step, he was about to rush over and kill him, but a Felhound beside him pounced directly at him and tangled with him in battle. For some reason, the Felhound could now find him.
After drinking the potion, the boss took advantage of the Felhound keeping Lantresuo occupied to gather the corpses of all four of his brothers together, chanting under his breath.
As the boss recited the incantation, dark green flames ignited upon the four corpses. The sight of those flames made one's heart tremble. Before long, the flames burned the corpses away completely. The boss raised both hands and shouted, "Honored Doom Guard, I offer four souls as a gift. Answer my summons and clear away my obstacles!"
As soon as his words fell, winds and clouds churned, and the sky abruptly changed. A dark green hole appeared in midair, and the phantoms of the four black-robed men struggled and cursed as they were sucked into it.
Then a deep, hollow voice rang in the ears of both the boss and Lantresuo. "Burning Legion, 9,527th Squad Captain—Lanbo accepts your gift!"
First, a massive hand wrapped in iron chains gripped the edge of the hole. Then an ugly head with long horns broke through the hole's restraints. Next, his other hand, clutching a greatsword wreathed in green flames, emerged from the hole as well. Finally, his entire body tipped forward, and with a flap of his bat-like wings, he slowly descended between the boss and Lantresuo.
"Warlock, name your enemy, and I shall clear the way for you." Lanbo lowered his head to look at the black-robed orc boss. With every breath from his nostrils, one could feel the heat of flames.
The black-robed boss had been so terrified by the demon he had summoned that he sat frozen on the ground. Only upon hearing Lanbo's words did he react. Overjoyed, he dropped to his knees before Lanbo and said, "Honored Lord Lanbo, my enemy is that Sword Saint."
Lanbo followed the direction of the black-robed boss's pointing finger. Lantresuo had just finished off the Felhound and looked up in this direction. Their gazes met.
"Hmph." Lanbo's heavy breath carried a wisp of flame. "This little bug is your enemy? Too weak!"
"Heh, idiot. That sulfur stench on you makes me want to vomit." Though alarm bells blared in Lantresuo's heart, his words did not lose any of their force.
"What? Bastard, this is the scent girls love most!" Hearing Lantresuo's words, Lanbo raised his greatsword, spread his wings, and charged at him. To the black-robed boss, that savage expression was as captivating as a lover acting coy.
