Background / History
Sasuke is the only publicly surviving member of the Uchiha Clan. Driven by the goal of avenging his clan against his older brother, he is prepared to endure any cost in exchange for strength. 28
During the Land of Waves mission, Sasuke and Naruto are trapped inside Haku's Demonic Mirroring Ice Crystals. After observing Naruto's sudden growth through Kazeka's intervention, Sasuke agrees to submit to Kazeka's experiments, even while Naruto warns him about their consequences. 28
Kazeka's treatments rapidly improve Sasuke's Sharingan, but leave him bloodied, fearful, and visibly changed in demeanor. Sasuke later questions Kazeka directly about whether future procedures might alter his sex or involve crude body modification. 30 32
Personality
Sasuke is intensely goal-oriented and willing to risk his body, mental state, and safety for greater power. His resolve is rooted in revenge, and he initially accepts Kazeka's experiments despite their reputation because he believes strength is necessary to kill his brother. 28
He is also protective of Naruto. When confronted by Orochimaru in the Forest of Death, Sasuke proposes staying behind to draw the enemy's attention so Naruto and Sakura can escape; he later states that Naruto's safety is his highest priority. 39 43
Following Kazeka's enhancements and Orochimaru's Cursed Seal, Sasuke's fixation on Naruto becomes unusually intense. Kazeka attributes this behavior to the personality adjustment required to accommodate sudden power, while explaining that Sasuke's public confessions serve as self-hypnosis rather than ordinary romantic expression. 33 50

Story Role / Major Arcs
Land of Waves Mission
Sasuke is trapped with Naruto inside Haku's ice prison and becomes increasingly frustrated by the gap between his own strength and Naruto's enhanced resilience. Kazeka's offer of greater power prompts Sasuke to agree to experimentation, provided Kazeka is honest about its risks. 28
After witnessing Kazeka's gender-altering agent used on Haku, Sasuke becomes apprehensive about what his own procedures may involve. Kazeka assures him that the agent was a failed product and that his current experiments are more efficient. 29 30
Training Before the Chunin Exams
Sasuke undergoes repeated experiments at Kazeka's laboratory. The treatments advance his Sharingan to Double Tomoe, but Naruto and Sakura observe that Sasuke comes out bloodied, frightened, and increasingly strange around Naruto. 32 33
Forest of Death
Sasuke and Naruto face Orochimaru together. Sasuke offers to hold Orochimaru off so Naruto and Sakura can flee, but Naruto refuses to leave him behind. 39
Orochimaru later bites Sasuke and implants a Cursed Seal. Even while suffering from the mark, Sasuke rejects Orochimaru's invitation to leave Konoha, declaring that he will stay because Naruto is there. 42
Chunin Exam Elimination Match
Still weakened by the Cursed Seal, Sasuke faces Kabuto Yakushi. He adjusts to Kabuto's Chakra-draining technique, defeats him, and publicly frames his determination to earn Chunin rank as a confession to Naruto. 49
Kazeka reveals that these declarations are self-hypnosis used to intensify Sasuke's power. The behavior alarms Naruto, Sakura, and the Third Hokage, who offers Kazeka money to reverse Sasuke's condition. 50
