In the blink of an eye, three years had passed. Jerry and Tang San were both nearly six years old.
Over those three years, Tang San had grown much sturdier from fishing. His Purple Demon Eye, Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track, and Mysterious Jade Hand had all reached the limits of the first level, yet he could not break through. Thinking that he would soon awaken his Martial Soul, Tang San grew impatient with anticipation!
As for Jerry, after three years, he and Tang San appeared to have a very good relationship.
However, Tang San simply would not teach him the Mysterious Heaven Skill. Every time, he found excuses to brush him off, and Jerry realized that Tang San was not so easily fooled.
So he intensified his training. Although Tang San would not teach Jerry the Mysterious Heaven Skill, he had never refused whenever Jerry asked him to make something.
Jerry knew Tang San had made a Sleeve Dart and kept it hidden from him. Then Jerry asked Tang San to make him a Bow and Arrow.
Although the bow was huge and inconvenient to carry, Jerry kept practicing with it. It was simply too difficult, though. Within ten meters, Jerry could guarantee a hit. Beyond ten meters, it was up to fate.
When Tang San saw Jerry practicing archery, he mocked, "Jerry, your Bow and Arrow isn't even as accurate as what I throw!"
"I..." Jerry suddenly wanted to beat Tang San up.
The Bow and Arrow was too difficult to use, so Jerry finally managed to convince Tang San to make him a strange-looking Crossbow Bolt. Normal crossbows had no barrel, but Jerry's did. There was a sight at the end of the barrel and a notch at the rear. From afar, it looked like a Sniper Rifle. It fired arrows and was powered by a bow.
Yet such a simple alteration greatly improved Jerry's accuracy.
Tang San saw it and asked, "What's that thing for?"
"Hunting. It can even be used as a weapon."
"It's fine for hunting, but if you use it against people, your opponent will run away the moment they see you pull out such a huge thing. Can you even aim accurately?"
"Get lost. I don't want to talk to you anymore!"
Tang San, you're driving me crazy. You won't teach me the Mysterious Heaven Skill, you won't give me a Sleeve Dart, and you even mock me.
Thinking about how Xiao Wu had been with Tang San for so many years in the future and still had not been taught, and how no one at Shrek Academy had learned it either, Jerry understood that Tang San's resolve was firm. He had declared before jumping off the cliff in his previous life that he would not pass it on, and even after coming to another world, he still would not pass it on!
Jerry had considered making a gun before, but gunpowder was a problem. The textbook said one part sulfur, two parts saltpeter, three parts charcoal, but where was he supposed to get sulfur? How was he supposed to get saltpeter? He had absolutely no idea!
Jerry had also tried sitting in meditation himself, but his butt had gone numb, and he had not felt a thing!
After sincerely treating Tang San well for three years, he had gotten nothing in return. It was Bailing Water with a Bamboo Basket.
Tang San had even started guarding against him at every turn. Since that was the case, Tang San should not blame him!
Jerry had originally hesitated over affecting the later plot, but now he had no more reservations!
Early the next morning, Jerry got up and ran to the place on Back Mountain where Tang San trained. Sure enough, Tang San had already arrived. After Tang San finished cultivating and saw Jerry, he suddenly felt a little guilty!
"Jerry, you're up so early today. Did you come to exercise too?" Tang San asked.
"Yeah. There are only three months left before we awaken our Martial Souls, so I need to train harder. I hope I'll awaken with Soul Power. Grandpa Jack said that no one in our family has had Soul Power for generations, so I have to work hard. Little San, you seem very interested in Soul Masters. Do you want to become one in the future too?" Jerry asked.
"Yeah. I heard Soul Masters have a very high status, so I want to give it a try. Do you know much about the world of Soul Masters?" Sure enough, Tang San also wanted to fish some information about Soul Masters out of Jerry, which suited Jerry perfectly.
"I know a little. Grandpa told me a lot whenever he had time."
"It's all basic common knowledge. For example, Soul Masters have ranks. After awakening your Martial Soul, if you have Soul Power, you count as a Soul Scholar. When you cultivate to level ten and absorb your First Soul Ring, you become a Soul Master. After that come Soul Grandmaster, Soul Elder, Soul Ancestor, Soul King, Spirit Emperor, Spirit Sage, Soul Douluo, and Titled Douluo."
"A Titled Douluo is already the strongest combat force in this world. I don't know anything beyond that. Every ten levels, you must absorb a Soul Ring to break through. There are White Ten-Year Soul Rings, Yellow Hundred-Year Soul Rings, Purple Thousand-Year Soul Rings, Black Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Rings, and Red Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Rings."
"Oh, right. There is a Master in the Soul Master world who published the Ten Great Core Theories of Martial Souls, helping commoners better understand Martial Souls."
"Then that Master is quite great," Tang San said.
"Great? He has nothing to do with greatness. You could even say that this Master is a thief."
"This Master is called Yu Xiaogang, the son of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan's patriarch. He had only half a rank of Innate Soul Power and could never cultivate beyond level twenty-nine in his life."
"So he went to Spirit Hall, studied Spirit Hall's Martial Soul records, organized them, and published the Ten Great Core Theories of Martial Souls."
"He put his own name on it, stole other people's work, published it, and claimed the credit for himself. Isn't that hypocritical?"
"But he has still benefited many commoner Soul Masters, hasn't he?" Tang San asked.
"That was because he was trash. He suffered discrimination from his own clan and could no longer endure it, so he turned to crooked methods instead."
"Yet the Ten Great Core Theories of Martial Souls he summarized are incomplete. You could even say they are wrong."
"Originally, cultivation methods for Soul Masters were controlled by the imperial family, the nobility, Spirit Hall, and the sects. Every Soul Master who awakened a Martial Soul either joined Spirit Hall, joined a sect, or joined an empire, where they would receive systematic instruction."
"These records were accumulated over hundreds or thousands of years. Yu Xiaogang used Spirit Hall's materials and spent only a few years organizing them into theories. Do you think they could possibly be complete?"
"Give you a hundred years. If you could organize complete cultivation records, I'd admire you!"
"Forget me, I don't have that ability!" Tang San said.
"And think about it. Martial Soul records were tested by generation after generation using their own lives. Would Spirit Hall let trash like Yu Xiaogang see the truly important records? After all, he was also the son of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan's patriarch!"
"Besides Spirit Hall, there are also the more powerful Three Great Sects: the Clear Sky Sect, the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, and the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect."
"The Three Great Sects do not have very good relations with Spirit Hall. Do you think Spirit Hall's people are idiots, that they would let the patriarch's son of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan see all their records? If it were you, would you?"
"I definitely wouldn't. Those are sect secrets. I would never leak them," Tang San said firmly.
"People call him Master on the surface, but they are actually mocking him. Do you know why no one did anything to him after he published the Ten Great Core Theories and indirectly harmed the interests of the nobles and sects?"
"Because, to the sects and nobles, his Ten Great Core Theories were a joke. Yet Yu Xiaogang did not realize it and became hopelessly obsessed with them."
"He could not prove his own theories, yet he firmly believed in them. I heard that he had been looking for a talented disciple all these years to prove his theories, but unfortunately, he had never found one!"
