Background

Ningguang begins as an impoverished child in Liyue Harbor, selling star shells for 500 Mora each. She wears loose, coarse cloth clothing and supports her ill mother despite her young age. 2 7

Fang Xun purchases all of her star shells and later helps her without framing it as charity: he trades food for her services as a guide, lends her 50,000 Mora for her family's needs, and offers her a secretary position with a monthly salary of 50,000 Mora. Ningguang accepts only after being convinced that her planning ability qualifies her for the work. 3 6 8 10 11

When an Ancient Rock Dragon Lizard attacks her village, Ningguang risks herself to recover the Genshin's Eye entrusted to her by Fang Xun. Her determination awakens its Geo power, allowing her Jade Screen to absorb the creature's fireball and protect the villagers. She is left exhausted and unable to deploy the barrier again immediately. 27 28 29

Following the attack, Fang Xun provides a home for Ningguang and her mother and places Ningguang in charge of aspects of the village's reconstruction. She coordinates with villagers, proposes workable ideas, and grows increasingly confident in directing others. 31 32 40

Ningguang becomes part of Fang Xun's household alongside Qiqi, Beidou, Shenhe, and other children. She welcomes Qiqi despite initially fearing her zombie nature, and later helps Beidou adjust to having a stable home. 38 39 50 75

Twenty years later, Ningguang is the Tianquan Star of the Liyue Qixing and one of Liyue's most influential merchants. Wealthy merchants pay tens of millions of Mora for an opportunity to dine with her and seek her commercial advice. As a child, Ningguang is a thin, fair-skinned girl with white hair and clear red eyes. Her poverty is initially reflected in her rough clothing and barefoot peddling, though her appearance changes dramatically after receiving custom-made attire. 2 13 161
