First Appearance Chapter 118

Background / History

Before becoming a god, Barbatos was a small spirit among the Thousand Winds. In Old Mondstadt, he met a young organ-playing poet who dreamed of seeing birds fly beyond the city’s impenetrable wind walls. The youth died before that dream could be fulfilled; Barbatos kept the falcon feather he had meant to give him. 371

Barbatos later took the youth’s form and helped transform Mondstadt into a land of freedom, dispersing its snow and violent winds and flattening its steep mountains. The people of Mondstadt consequently revere him as the Anemo God. 212 354

At the Wind Dragon Ruins, Fang Xun used a Spirit Guiding Lamp to reunite Barbatos with his old friend. Venti took the youth flying over Mondstadt so he could finally see the sky, birds, and free city he had wished for. The fading soul revealed his name was Venti, then chose to become a wind spirit rather than accept an attempted new vessel. 371 372

Appearance

Venti usually appears as a youthful bard in green clothing, an appearance modeled after his deceased friend. Although others mistake him for an underage boy, he insists that he is an adult. 312 371

  • Carries and plays a lyre. 119 152
  • Keeps his old friend’s falcon feather tied at his waist. 371
  • Can replace his bard attire with divine clothing and manifest flawless white wings. 434

Personality

Venti is playful, shamelessly opportunistic, and exceptionally devoted to wine. He regularly obtains meals, lodging, tavern visits, or labor rewards from Fang Xun through pleading, evasions, and creative excuses. Even when he has no Mora, he orders extravagantly or leaves bills for others to settle. 119 134 311 428

He is also a skilled deceiver who separates “Venti” from “Barbatos” whenever convenient. His carefree manner causes others to underestimate him, but he becomes composed and decisive when Mondstadt, his companions, or Fang Xun’s children are endangered. 271 371 432 435

Beneath his unserious exterior, Venti remains deeply sentimental. He protects the Wind Dragon Ruins, worries about Tvalin, preserves the memory of his old friend, and personally fulfills that friend’s final wish to see Mondstadt from the sky. 371 372

Abilities & Skills

Anemo Authority

Venti commands Anemo energy on a divine scale, using it for movement, lifting, control, and direct combat.

  • Flies himself and others by making them light as wind; he transported Fang Xun and Xiao to Wangshu Inn and later flew groups across Mondstadt. 118 270
  • Can condense wind into invisible hands strong enough to lift and relocate the Vermillion Adjuvant Stone. 229
  • Historically reshaped Mondstadt’s landscape by dispersing snowstorms and flattening mountains. 212 354
  • His own estimate places him in a “4–6 split” with Zhongli in a direct comparison. 212
  • Overpowered and restrained Dottore’s Evil Eye power while disguised as Little Kuki Shinobu. 432
  • Even his full Anemo power could not overcome the Heavenly Principles Maintainer’s suction force. 435

Bardic Music

Venti’s flute and lyre performances have supernatural effects beyond ordinary music.

  • His flute music calmed Xiao and allowed him to suppress a karmic-hindrance episode. 118
  • Uses his lyre to call Tvalin across great distances. 134 152
  • Remains an accomplished musician while drunk; Fang Xun notes that his lyre melodies become even more empathetic after drinking. 119

Tvalin’s Summons

Venti can summon Tvalin for transport and support.

  • Tvalin carries Venti and his companions across nations, including journeys to the snowy mountain and Inazuma. 135 152
  • The dragon routinely complains that Venti summons him too often, but continues answering his calls. 152 199 396

Items

  • Lyre — Instrument used for performances, Anemo arts, and summoning Tvalin. 119 152
  • Falcon feather — A keepsake from his old friend, worn at his waist for thousands of years. 371
  • Skyward Wing — A bow Venti gifted to Fang Xun. 210

Relationships

  • Fang Xun — Close friend, frequent meal provider, and drinking companion. Venti trusts him enough to share his past at the Wind Dragon Ruins, while Fang Xun repeatedly relies on Venti’s power and tolerates his freeloading. 119 229 371
  • Xiao — Venti’s music once saved Xiao from a karmic-hindrance episode; Xiao recognizes its healing power and readily treats him to meals. 118
  • Tvalin — Longtime dragon companion whom Venti calls a “partner.” Tvalin is loyal but visibly resentful of his master’s constant demands. 135 152 371
  • Zhongli (Morax) — Fellow original Archon and longtime acquaintance. Venti compares their strength as roughly a 4–6 split. 212 435
  • The youth Venti — His Old Mondstadt companion and the person whose form he adopted. Venti safeguarded the youth’s feather and helped him see free Mondstadt before his soul dissipated. 371 372
  • Ningguang and Fang Xun’s children — Protected them on Watatsumi Island, revealing his identity and overpowering Dottore before escorting them to safety. 432
  • Raiden Ei — Allied with her to defend Fang Xun against the Heavenly Principles Maintainer. 434 435
  • Crepus — A devout follower of Barbatos who repeatedly mistakes Venti for an irresponsible young bard and tries to limit his drinking. 312 318
