Background / History

Before becoming a god, Barbatos was a small spirit among the Thousand Winds. In Old Mondstadt, he met a young organ-playing poet who dreamed of seeing birds fly beyond the city’s impenetrable wind walls. The youth died before that dream could be fulfilled; Barbatos kept the falcon feather he had meant to give him. 371

Barbatos later took the youth’s form and helped transform Mondstadt into a land of freedom, dispersing its snow and violent winds and flattening its steep mountains. The people of Mondstadt consequently revere him as the Anemo God. 212 354

At the Wind Dragon Ruins, Fang Xun used a Spirit Guiding Lamp to reunite Barbatos with his old friend. Venti took the youth flying over Mondstadt so he could finally see the sky, birds, and free city he had wished for. The fading soul revealed his name was Venti, then chose to become a wind spirit rather than accept an attempted new vessel. 371 372

Appearance

Venti usually appears as a youthful bard in green clothing, an appearance modeled after his deceased friend. Although others mistake him for an underage boy, he insists that he is an adult. 312 371

Personality

Venti is playful, shamelessly opportunistic, and exceptionally devoted to wine. He regularly obtains meals, lodging, tavern visits, or labor rewards from Fang Xun through pleading, evasions, and creative excuses. He is also a skilled deceiver who separates “Venti” from “Barbatos” whenever convenient. His carefree manner causes others to underestimate him, but he becomes composed and decisive when Mondstadt, his companions, or Fang Xun’s children are endangered. 271 371 432 435

Beneath his unserious exterior, Venti remains deeply sentimental. He protects the Wind Dragon Ruins, worries about Tvalin, preserves the memory of his old friend, and personally fulfills that friend’s final wish to see Mondstadt from the sky. 371 372
