Background and History
Lei Meng is the son of Duke Lei Zhen. Men of the Lei Clan traditionally serve at the border, and Lei Meng expects to earn military merit before he can inherit his father’s title 27 40.
As captain of the Imperial Fighting Team, Lei Meng was talented but difficult to manage; the academy had been unable to assign the team a supervising teacher. When Qin Yuan criticized his blade technique, Lei Meng challenged him, lost, and knelt to ask to become his disciple 23 24 35. Qin Yuan declined a formal master–disciple bond but accepted a commission to teach him and lead the team 33 34.
Personality
Lei Meng begins as arrogant and quick-tempered, especially when his blade skills are questioned. After sparring with Qin Yuan, he drops his contempt and seeks instruction 23 24. He trains diligently, though his frustration with an ingrained flaw in his technique leaves him insecure before the tournament 36 40.
He values victories earned in a real fight rather than through an easy arrangement. After losing to Feng Xiaotian’s team in the arena, he praises Feng’s skill; the two become friends 49 51.
Abilities & Skills
Thunder Blade
Lei Meng’s lightning-attribute Martial Soul is a blade. His original technique is a Lei family secret skill, of which he had mastered more than eighty percent before meeting Qin Yuan 23 24.
- Thunder Flash: His Third Soul Skill strengthens the Thunder Blade and leaves numbing residual lightning in its wake 24.
- His forceful attacks can break through an opposing formation, as shown against Blue Tyrant Academy 42 43.
Virtual Reality Saber Technique
Qin Yuan teaches Lei Meng to shift between feints and committed strikes. Lei Meng initially wastes force on feints and strains his wrist when drawing the blade back 36 40.
- Against Feng Xiaotian, he realizes he must commit three parts of his force and hold seven in reserve, allowing a slash to become either a feint or a real strike 49.
- His breakthrough helps him withstand Feng’s consecutive slashes and win their match 49.
Equipment and Items
- Soul Tool pouch — Given to him by Qin Yuan for a future life-threatening situation. Qin Yuan warns him not to open it unnecessarily or expose its contents to sunlight; the contents are not identified 50.
Relationships
- Qin Yuan — His commissioned teacher, whom Lei Meng regards as his master despite never becoming a formal disciple. Their farewell after the tournament is difficult for him 34 35 50 56.
- Lei Zhen — His father, who arranges Qin Yuan’s teaching commission and considers how Lei Meng’s tournament success might support his eventual inheritance 27 34 54.
- Feng Xiaotian — A tournament opponent who becomes his friend after their match; they exchange insights on self-created techniques 49.
Soul Master Tournament
- Blue Tyrant Academy: Lei Meng gravely wounds its captain early, then eliminates him as the Imperial Fighting Team wins without an injury 42 43.
- Godwind Academy: He holds the front line, breaks through in the Virtual Reality Saber Technique during his fight with Feng Xiaotian, and helps secure a place in the grand final 48 49 50.
- Star Luo Royal Academy: He defeats its captain and leads the attack that secures the Imperial Fighting Team second place 54.
- Spirit City Team: He leads his team in eliminating six opponents before losing to its Soul King after expending too much Soul Power 55.
