Background / History

Creation and Early Survival

After receiving guidance from Ling Tian, Nuwa announces that she will create humans to remedy the incompleteness of the Primordial World’s races. She asks the Great Dao, rather than the Heavenly Dao, to witness her undertaking 215 216.

Using the Innate Gourd Vine, Nine Heavens Breathing Soil, and Three Lights Divine Water, Nuwa shapes 129,600 Innate Humans with Innate Dao Bodies. Their awakening produces auspicious phenomena and immense Great Dao Merit, despite their almost nonexistent cultivation foundations 216 217.

Nuwa establishes a protective green barrier covering a radius of ten million miles and forbids outside beings from invading for ten thousand years. She explicitly requires humanity to strengthen itself and eventually survive without that barrier 219.

The protection does not remove dangers already inside the territory. Within a century, fewer than one-tenth of the original humans remain alive; starvation, beasts, and poisonous plants account for many deaths. Rapid reproduction nevertheless increases the total population to nearly one million. Suiren Shi, Youchao Shi, and Ziyi Shi establish enough order to slow the losses 222.

Receiving the Golden Core Great Dao

Unable to find a cultivation method suitable for ordinary humans, Nuwa seeks Ling Tian’s assistance. Meanwhile, humanity builds a great altar and collectively prays for a way to cultivate. Although the petitioners have no cultivation, their voices become Dao Sound audible throughout the Primordial World 220 222.

Nuwa delivers Ling Tian’s Golden Core Great Dao, explaining that he created it specifically for humanity. Her sermon initiates the race’s cultivation and its first mass breakthroughs 223 224 225.

When humanity’s gratitude begins gathering around Nuwa, she redirects the credit to Ling Tian. The humans acknowledge him as their teacher, and their faith gathers within his stone statue 225 226 227.

The Beast Tide

As the ten-thousand-year protection period approaches its end, humanity’s leaders ask Ling Tian for guidance. He supplies a simplified Five Elements Great Array that can combine the strength of the entire race 227 228.

Zunti and Jieyin secretly lure ferocious beasts toward the ancestral land, intending to manufacture a crisis and then gain humanity’s gratitude by intervening. When Nuwa’s barrier disappears, billions of humans assemble in five great phalanxes and activate the array 229 230.

The formation withstands the initial assault, but a beast king cracks its barrier. Under Ling Tian’s guidance, the Three Ancestors recognize their responsibilities to provide fire, clothing, and shelter. Their Great Dao vows summon merit, enabling them to complete their breakthroughs before the array collapses 231 232.

The ancestors kill the beast king, and the remaining beasts retreat. Humanity establishes its foothold with very small losses. Zunti and Jieyin then claim credit for driving away the retreating beasts, but Nuwa exposes their responsibility for the attack 233 234.

Laozi’s Attempt to Establish the Human Teachings

Following Nuwa’s warning against further schemes, Laozi travels among humans disguised as an ordinary Heavenly Immortal elder. He discovers their low demand on the world’s origin, their mysterious protective power, and the Golden Core Great Dao 236.

Laozi later attempts to establish the Human Teachings and attain sainthood using humanity’s accumulated destiny. A strange card diverts that destiny and separates it from his Hongmeng Purple Qi. Ling Tian’s obstruction ultimately prevents the attempt, and Laozi instead becomes a Saint through the Dao Teachings 238 361.

Human–Demon War

Di Jun publicly declares war on humanity but sends only three Quasi-Saint demon gods—Bai Ze, Ji Meng, and Jiu Ying—and prohibits indiscriminate slaughter. The declaration shocks the Human Race, whose Three Ancestors and Xuan Du initially cannot devise an adequate response 359.

Ling Tian privately explains that Hongjun intended the conflict to slaughter humans for the Witch-Slaying Sword. He has redirected the Demon Clan into tempering humanity, and the demons are secretly allies. The Three Ancestors accept the arrangement and rally their people to fight rather than depend on their protectors 360.

The war lasts five thousand years and involves genuine casualties. Humanity’s inexperienced warriors steadily improve their tactics, Dao hearts, and combat ability. Xuan Du’s apparent death triggers a collective eruption: human warriors reach parity with demons of the same rank, while the Three Ancestors overpower the opposing demon gods 362 364.

Xuan Du returns alive as humanity’s first Primordial Golden Immortal, and both armies withdraw. The war leaves the race stronger rather than crippled and produces the first signs of the Human Dao’s revival 366 367.

Three Sovereigns, Five Emperors, and the Xia Dynasty

With Ling Tian’s guidance, Nuwa’s care, and Phoenix Clan support, humanity enters a period of explosive growth. Successive rulers uphold a tradition of abdicating to worthy successors and then cultivating in Fire Cloud Cave 409.

Ruler / Group Position Documented role
Fuxi Heavenly Emperor; first sovereign Reincarnates into humanity, leads the race, and later abdicates for secluded cultivation 409.
Shennong Earthly Emperor; second sovereign Succeeds Fuxi and later abdicates 409.
Xuanyuan Yellow Emperor; Human Emperor Defeats Chiyou’s resistance and establishes his position 409.
Zhuanxu, Di Ku, Tang Yao, Yu Shun, Xia Yu Five Emperors Continue the succession-and-abdication tradition, then enter Fire Cloud Cave to cultivate 409.
Xia Dynasty Humanity’s first dynasty Emerges after the Five Emperors 409.

By the Xia Dynasty’s establishment, humanity has surpassed the Demon Court and become the strongest power beneath the Phoenix Clan and Purple Cloud Palace faction. Its influence reaches across the Primordial World, and smaller factions begin becoming its vassals 409.

Heavenly Court Suppression and Human Dao Revival

To delay the Human Dao’s revival, Hongjun uses the newly established Heavenly Court as justification for restricting humanity. Haotian accuses humans of harming the Primordial World and gives them one hundred years to withdraw to their ancestral land 411 413.

Humanity refuses. Its great array withstands Haotian’s first attack, then combines the strength of humans across the world with its Auspicious Golden Dragon. The resulting Human Race Giant Dragon destroys his full-power palm strike 414 415 416.

Laozi and the other Saints intervene and demand that humanity be divided by cultivation level:

Cultivation group Ordered confinement
Quasi-Saints and above Fire Cloud Cave 416.
Heavenly Immortal through Quasi-Saint Human Ancestral Land 416.
Below Heavenly Immortal A newly established Human World Realm 416.

The humans reject confinement. Ling Tian manifests through his statue as a divine thought, acknowledges their unity and integrity, and merges with their collective dragon. The Human Dao revives, and its dragon kills the five Saints, establishing humanity as a superpower 417 418 420.

Hongjun then attacks directly through the Eye of Heavenly Dao. Nuwa intervenes, followed by Yuan Feng and the Phoenix Clan’s allied experts. Their combined strength forces Hongjun to retreat 420 421 422.

Aid to the Phoenix Clan

When Hongjun later returns and breaks the Phoenix Clan’s protective array, humanity joins the forces arriving to reinforce the clan 488.

Appearance

  • Founding bodies: Nuwa shapes the first generation into Innate Dao Bodies using spiritual soil and water 216.
  • Collective manifestations: Humanity’s fortune appears as an Auspicious Golden Dragon; its united battle strength later manifests as the Human Race Giant Dragon and Human Dao Giant Dragon 367 415 420.

Culture and Collective Character

Humanity’s central principle is self-improvement rather than permanent dependence on its protectors. Nuwa establishes this expectation at the race’s birth. Long peace later makes both ordinary humans and the Three Ancestors complacent, prompting Ling Tian to use the Human–Demon War to restore their fighting spirit 219 360 364.

The race places great importance on gratitude and remembrance. It reveres Nuwa as Holy Mother, honors Ling Tian as teacher, and commemorates fallen heroes through the Heroic Spirit Tablet. By the confrontation with Laozi, Ling Tian’s prestige among humans is described as exceeding even Nuwa’s 216 226 367 417.

Abilities & Skills

Golden Core Great Dao

Ling Tian’s cultivation method provides a broadly accessible foundation for human cultivation 223 226.

  • Almost every human can practice it, whereas humanity cannot cultivate 99.9% of the Primordial World’s other techniques 226.
  • It leads directly toward Hunyuan cultivation 231.
  • Its first widespread teaching produces a million immortal cultivators within less than five thousand years 225.

Collective Formation Techniques

Human formations allow large populations of comparatively weak cultivators to pool their power 228 415.

  • The simplified Five Elements Great Array requires Five Elements Spirit Treasures rather than the complete Innate Five Directions Banner set 228.
  • It can be deployed by one person, multiple cultivators, or the entire race. Its strength scales with participants, cultivation, and treasure quality 228.
  • Its five-colored barrier withstands the beast tide but begins failing under the beast king’s assault 230 231 232.
  • The later Human Race Great Array receives power from distant humans and merges with the Auspicious Golden Dragon to challenge a Saint 415 416.

Human Dao and Faith

Humanity embodies the Human Dao, a power initially suppressed by the Heavenly Dao 236 361.

  • Collective prayers become Dao Sound even before humans possess cultivation 222.
  • Faith directed toward Ling Tian’s statue contains growing Human Dao authority 227 228.
  • The statue serves as a medium for Ling Tian’s divine-sense guidance and later divine-thought intervention 227 228 418.
  • The Human Dao’s full revival follows humanity’s resistance to the Saints and Ling Tian’s intervention 420.

Reproduction and Low Origin Consumption

Humans combine rapid population growth with exceptionally low demands on the world’s origin 222 227 236.

  • Reproduction raises their population despite catastrophic losses among the founding generation 222.
  • Their numbers reach one hundred billion during the protection period, even while much of the population is occupied with cultivation 227.
  • Laozi observes that even tens of billions of humans place only a very small burden on the Primordial World 236.

Battlefield Adaptation

Human warriors rapidly improve through sustained combat 362 364.

Point in the Human–Demon War Same-rank combat comparison
Beginning One demon warrior can fight approximately ten humans 362.
After one thousand years One demon can contend with approximately five humans 362.
After three thousand years One demon can contend with approximately three humans 362.
After five thousand years One demon can contend with approximately two humans 362.
After Xuan Du’s apparent death Human warriors match same-rank demons; their numerical superiority turns into an overwhelming advantage 364.
