Background / History

Fugaku first appears as the battle-hardened temporary leader of Team Five while Jiraiya is stationed at the front. He immediately singles out Namikaze Minato and Nishikawa Tetsu, dismisses formal introductions as a waste of time, and leads the newly graduated genin toward the Land of Rain war zone. 2

During the journey, Fugaku's pride in direct power clashes with Tetsu's reliance on poisons, traps, and improvised tools. Nevertheless, his harshness is tempered by responsibility: he leaves the safest camping position for the genin and permits Tetsu's preparations so long as they do not endanger the team. 3

Although initially offended by Tetsu's criticism of Uchiha Fire Release, Fugaku secretly applies Tetsu's combustion theories to his training. He successfully develops hotter, more chakra-efficient blue flames, though he refuses to openly admit that the improvement came from Tetsu's advice. 8 10
