Obito's original thinking was that, to earn the trust of the Imperial Court and Madara Uchiha, he could not deliberately withhold information.
Once they discovered he had withheld information, their trust would collapse, never to be rebuilt.
So he had not concealed the news that Kakashi and Rin were going out, either.
As Obito saw it, the Imperial Court's primary target had to be his teacher, Minato Namikaze. Kakashi and Rin were nowhere near important enough to become its targets. Going after them would only tip off the enemy.
But why?
Why had things turned out like this?
Obito could not make sense of it.
That night, while Minato Namikaze was looking after Kakashi, Obito slipped out again and sought out Madara Uchiha to ask about what had happened that day.
"Why? Why did the Imperial Court suddenly go after Rin?
"She's just a defenseless medical... physician! She hasn't inherited Minato Namikaze's teachings, either. If you were going to capture anyone, it should have been Kakashi!"
Obito clenched his fists and demanded an explanation from Madara Uchiha.
"If I'd known, I never would have given you that information."
Obito added that last remark petulantly.
"Heh. Do you really think that girl was captured because of your information?"
Once Obito had finished venting, Madara slowly turned around with a derisive chuckle.
"What do you mean?"
Obito was baffled.
"The information you gave me comes directly to me. I'm the only one who can access it. Do you think I sent those people to capture her?"
"..."
Obito recalled what Kakashi had told them after waking up that day.
The people who had attacked them had relied on superior numbers, not overwhelming strength.
If Madara had really sent them, he could have dispatched a single expert to capture both of them without
