Background / History

Kakashi leads Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, and Sakura Haruno during the Land of Waves escort mission. When the supposedly C-rank assignment escalates through encounters with Kirigakure shinobi and Zabuza Momochi, he continues protecting his students and Tazuna despite the danger. He identifies Shirozumi as the higher-ranking threat in the latter’s group and attempts to stabilize the confrontation after Shirozumi’s unexplained movement leaves no trace even in Kakashi’s memory. 9 10

During the same mission, Kakashi confronts Shirozumi with his three-tomoe Sharingan and nearly copies the seal sequence for the Reaper Death Seal before realizing what technique it supposedly is.
