Background
Harry was raised by the Dursleys without knowing that he was a wizard or that his parents, James and Lily Potter, had died because of Voldemort. Hagrid and Bing Huan arrive on his eleventh birthday, reveal his magical heritage, and bring him into the wizarding world. Bing Huan openly condemns the Dursleys’ treatment of him. 8
At Diagon Alley, Harry receives a holly wand with a phoenix-feather core and learns that its twin belongs to Voldemort. Hagrid also gives him the snowy owl he names Hedwig. 9
He enters Hogwarts as a Gryffindor, befriending Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger on the Hogwarts Express. His first meeting with Draco Malfoy begins as a confrontation, but Draco gradually becomes an ally rather than an enemy. 10 21
Appearance
Harry is described as resembling his mother, Lily, more closely than his father. 1
- Wears glasses. 8
- Has a lightning-shaped scar on his forehead. 10
- His resemblance to Lily is noticed by Sirius Black. 59
Personality
Harry is instinctively protective of others and repeatedly chooses to face danger himself, from volunteering to cross the black flames guarding the Philosopher’s Stone to leading missions when he believes Sirius is in danger. 21 108 He values friendship over his public image as the Savior and refuses Voldemort’s promise to resurrect his parents rather than betray his companions. 21
He can be impulsive and insecure, especially when confronting threats connected to Voldemort. Dementors deeply affect him because of the trauma he has experienced, and he later doubts whether he can truly defeat Voldemort. 53 68 Rather than retreating from that doubt, he seeks training and works intensely to improve. 68 237
Harry also demonstrates mercy. After Peter Pettigrew is exposed, he chooses imprisonment over execution in order to honor James Potter’s values. 60
Abilities & Skills
