Background / History

Obito operated under the name Uchiha Madara, using a mask and Kamui to conceal his identity. He entered Kumogakure seeking Six Paths Ninja Tools, killed Yozuki Rei, and stored both Rei's corpse and the Red Gourd in Kamui Space. He then learned that Hyuga Neji possessed the Amber Bottle. 44

He secretly supported Danzō by delivering a Three-Tomoe Sharingan and the forbidden dōjutsu Izanagi. He also sought to manipulate Uchiha Itachi's development, having killed Itachi's teammates and squad leader because he believed Itachi could awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan. 60 70

During the conflict between the Uchiha clan and Konoha's leadership, Obito cooperated outwardly with Danzō while pursuing his own interests. He used Kamui and Wood Release to kill Fugaku Uchiha from behind Susanoo's defenses, then withdrew when Hiruzen Sarutobi approached. 79 81

Obito later stole one of Nagato's Rinnegan through Hiruko, implanted it in his forehead, and summoned the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path. He disclosed that Madara had implanted the Rinnegan in Nagato so that Nagato would nurture it and eventually revive Madara. 160

He cooperated uneasily with Orochimaru to capture Tailed Beasts and revive Madara, but Orochimaru's Impure World Reincarnation scheme repeatedly complicated his plans. Obito ultimately summoned Madara as an Impure World Reincarnation body to counter Hashirama. 161 164

During the final conflict, Senju Tobirama severely injured Obito, while Neji interrupted his attempt to use the Outer Path — Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique to restore Madara to life. Black Zetsu then revealed that both Madara and Obito had been pawns in Kaguya Otsutsuki's plan; the Infinite Tsukuyomi was meant to reclaim Kaguya's chakra rather than establish peace. 165 166

Personality

Obito is ruthless, theatrical, and highly contemptuous of those he considers weak. He treats prospective allies and subordinates as tools, recruits only individuals he judges useful, and dismisses Zabuza as “trash” unworthy of Akatsuki. 107

He is also impulsive when personally provoked. Neji and Hikari's references to Rin and Kakashi enraged him enough to abandon his usual preference for retreating through Kamui and remain in a dangerous battle. 108 109

Despite presenting himself as “Uchiha Madara,” Obito remains deeply tied to his past. He hesitates to take Kakashi's left eye because reclaiming the gift would mean abandoning the person he was before Rin's death. After learning that Madara had manipulated him in much the same way he manipulated Nagato, Obito breaks down and blames the world for Rin's death. 110 111
