Nature and Awakening

Martial Souls are innate powers inherited through bloodlines. In Douluo Continent society, awakening one is presented as the defining event for an individual's strength, talent, status, and prospects. 11

A specialized Martial Soul Hall awakening crystal can measure innate Soul Power up to level 20. When Li Yifei attempted his awakening, his power overwhelmed and destroyed the crystal before its light could stabilize. 12

• A Martial Soul may manifest as an animal, plant, weapon, or more abstract phenomenon.
• Soul Power and Soul Rings are normally used to develop a Martial Soul's combat potential and Soul Skills. 14

Soul Rings and Soul Skills

Soul Rings grant Soul Power and Soul Skills to a Martial Soul. Their age and quality ordinarily determine how difficult they are to absorb and how much power they provide.

• Bibi Dong possesses nine Soul Rings on her first Martial Soul, including a hundred-thousand-year red ring. 3
• Li Yifei's first ring was an upgraded God-bestowed Soul Ring: a golden Divine Ring rather than an ordinary hundred-year ring. 13
• Li Yifei's first Soul Skill through the Eye of Guixu demonstrated spatial deflection, attack reflection, spatial lockdown, and short-range transfer. 14 15

Eternal Moment

Eternal Moment is Li Yifei's time-type Martial Soul and supports time reversal.

• It restored the awakening chamber after the Eye of Guixu damaged its spatial structure. 12
• It repaired a severed Blue Silver Grass stalk at a cost of 3% of Li Yifei's Soul Power. 23
• Reversing a completely destroyed plant required over half of his Soul Power; restoring a hundred-thousand-year Soul Beast was theoretically possible but beyond his available energy. 24
• It reduced a fifteen-thousand-year Soul Ring to just above ten thousand years, allowing Zhu Zhuqing to attempt absorption. 73

Evolution and Modification

Martial Souls are ordinarily regarded as innate and fixed, but Li Yifei demonstrated methods that evolve or restructure them.

• Herb-guided evolution — Li Yifei's analysis identified the Jadeite Dragon Blood Vine and Emerald God Serpent Marrow Fruit as ingredients that could trigger Martial Soul genetic restructuring when fused at a 3:1 ratio with Soul Power guidance. 17
• Dugu Bo's evolution — The treatment transformed his Jade Phosphorous Serpent Emperor into the Jade Phosphorous Dragon Emperor, cured his lifelong poison, and raised him to level 95. 17
• Dugu Yan's evolution — Her Martial Soul became the Jade Heavenly Serpent, then underwent further ice-and-fire modification after exposure to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Eye and Water of Life. 18 21
• Quality enhancement — Ye Lingling absorbed the Aromatic Silk Beauty Immortal Herb, evolving the Nine Heart Begonia and raising her Soul Power from level 41 to 49. 84

Limitations and Exceptions

• Soul Skills consume Soul Power. Li Yifei ended his test against Dugu Bo because his one-ring-level Soul Power could no longer sustain repeated spatial abilities. 15
• The usual rule prevents Soul Power from advancing without obtaining Soul Rings. The Chat Group's Soul Power Boost reward bypasses this restriction, though the recipient still lacks Soul Skills without rings. 78
• Li Yifei used five Soul Power Boosts to rise from level 49 to level 99 without filling every Soul Ring slot. 79 80
• The coexistence of extreme ice and fire within Dugu Yan's modified Martial Soul violates what Bibi Dong describes as an elemental iron law. 21
