Background

Yu Yan initially served as Dawn's assistant during the superpower tournament. She gathered information on his opponents, invited him to meals, and became increasingly confused by her own unusually strong attraction to him. She described Dawn as a “vortex” that drew her in despite not understanding why. 179 181

After Dawn won the tournament, Yu Yan revealed that she and Goddess Merus were inseparable. Rather than being a single human, she was the soul and collective consciousness of an entire civilization, able to direct humanity through her Unity of the Masses ability. Her immense lifespan and experience of countless human thoughts left her lonely, mentally unstable, and detached from ordinary personal ethics. 183 184

Before departing her original world with Dawn, she preset the daily trajectories of every human for three months. She intended to determine whether any person could awaken a spiritual root and prove that civilization could continue developing without her direct control. 186
