Background / History
Zhang Hao was born in a village under Qing Shui County of the Great Li Dynasty. His parents died in an accident when he was fourteen; with few relatives and a weak household, he was bullied by villagers and lost even his family’s fields. He survived by hunting in the mountains. 39
At fifteen, Zhang Hao witnessed two mortal Innate experts fight to the death over a treasure. After both died, he claimed the treasure and two cultivation methods—one for physical cultivation and one for internal force—beginning his path of cultivation. 39
The treasure enabled him to reach the Innate realm within two years. He later encountered a cultivator, stepped onto the Immortal Path, and forcibly passed the Azure Cloud Sect’s entry trials to become an Outer Disciple. 39
His Five-element Spirit Root was identified as a Pseudo Spirit Root. Its poor spiritual-energy refinement rate, high advancement cost, and the heavy consumption of his cultivation method made Foundation Establishment especially difficult. 39
Seeking a Foundation Establishment secret method, Zhang Hao mortgaged precious spirit medicines and was pursued for it. He escaped a siege by exploiting the distraction caused by a black-robed cultivator, releasing lightning once his opponents’ vigilance faltered. 39
Personality
Zhang Hao is resilient, alert, and highly opportunistic under pressure. Even while cornered by pursuers, he quickly assessed the changing battlefield and acted at the instant his enemies relaxed their guard. 39
His difficult cultivation conditions have made him conscious of resources and impatient to act when opportunities arise. During his concealment in the Spiritless Sea, he complained about financial strain from cultivation and reacted uneasily to Lin Chen’s bone mountain. 426
He also has a teasing side, openly mocking Lin Chen’s more outlandish sect rumors while defending his own unusual nickname. 264
