As Hashirama Senju’s granddaughter, Tsunade grew up under intense attention in Konoha. Hiruzen Sarutobi had long considered taking her as his personal disciple, but Mito Uzumaki refused the arrangement. At the Ninja Academy, Tsunade was a popular and exceptional student, recognized for her strength and feared for her “iron fist.” 2 3 6

Her spar with Watanabe began as a one-sided match, but his resolve interested her enough that she agreed to train with him regularly. She became his most important early supporter: sparring with him, accepting his gifts of food, and giving him advanced ninjutsu scrolls—including A-rank and S-rank techniques—so he could compensate for his weak taijutsu. 14 17 31

Tsunade graduated early because the worsening international situation placed special expectations on the Senju Clan’s heir.
