Background / History

Watanabe began as an impoverished orphan and the apparent lowest-ranked student in his Ninja Academy class. His classmates considered him incapable of defeating anyone, and he initially contemplated surrendering when paired against Tsunade. The activation of Karma Reversal transformed the ridicule directed at him into beneficial attributes, prompting him to fight instead. 2 3

His spar with Tsunade revealed both his extraordinary endurance and the risks of his ability. Attacks increased his Blood Essence and Defense, but concern and praise could reverse into undesirable effects. He chose to retreat rather than take Tsunade’s full-force attack, then began experimenting with the system’s limits through sleep deprivation, hunger, laziness, chakra cultivation, and self-harm. Hiruzen Sarutobi noticed Watanabe through Osaka Rukawa’s report and supported his early graduation.
