"What?" Honglian immediately protested. "Of course I'm not! Why does this have to involve the Gospel Society again? Do I have to join an organization?"
"Because you need me to help you find someone. Without that request, I naturally wouldn't have brought up the Gospel Society."
"They're already putting that much pressure on the agency?" Honglian caught the implication.
Neither of the two across from her answered.
But their expressions told her she had guessed correctly.
"Fine, I can tell you in no uncertain terms that I'm not with the Gospel Society. And, of course—neither is my friend here."
"I hope so. But I still need to conduct a small test. After all, the enemy's infiltration has become impossible to guard against." Abigail turned to her adjutant. "Reid."
He nodded, took a revolver from inside his jacket, and set it on the table.
"The test is simple. Repeat what I say. If you aren't lying, the gun won't fire. If you are, it definitely will, because I'll load every chamber."
As he spoke, he opened the cylinder and loaded six bullets into it, one after another.
Everyone saw that not a single chamber had been left empty.
"Wait, you're going to shoot in here?" Honglian asked in surprise. "Won't that bring the police?"
"It doesn't matter. If the gun fires, that means there really is a Gospel Society member among us. This place becoming a battlefield would hardly be surprising, let alone a few gunshots," Abigail said. "I didn't tell anyone I was coming to this meeting, but that doesn't mean I can't call for agency reinforcements. The New City Branch is just one street over, after all. Once I send a signal, the Execution Team can be here within two minutes."
"I'm not a member of the Gospel Faction."
