Perhaps because he had known Gu Mian for so long, Chu Changge's mission was also a tiny bit abnormal.
He stated his mission: "Circle the hospital along the fence three times..."
Gu Mian froze for a moment.
This hospital was not small. There were at least a dozen buildings, surrounded by a protective fence. One lap would take at least ten minutes.
And there were plenty of zombies in the hospital. By the end of one lap, there would probably be a hundred or so following behind them.
Just imagining a horde of zombies trailing behind him felt exhilaratingly awful.
Gu Mian took Chu Changge out of the morgue and looked outside through a window.
From this building, they could just barely see the fence around the hospital's perimeter.
The fences looked extremely flimsy, as though they could be broken with one blow, but whenever a zombie approached, the fence bounced it back.
Apparently, some players had tried to rush out of the hospital. Gu Mian could see several cars that had crashed into the fence.
But by now, both cars and drivers had been destroyed. Their hoods were flattened as neatly as if they had been branded with a hot iron, while the fence itself was completely undamaged.
"Looks like this instance doesn't allow players to leave the hospital." Gu Mian looked out the window.
After all, it was called Zombie Hospital. If players could leave the hospital, what dignity would this instance have left?
Whatever. It made no difference to Gu Mian whether they could leave the hospital or not. He only needed to help Chu Changge finish his mission.
Cars were easy to find in the hospital, and most of them could be opened, with the keys still in the ignition.
Otherwise, so many players would not have been able to flatten their car hoods so neatly.
Of course, Gu Mian had no intention of eagerly testing whether he could flatten his own hood just as neatly.
He sneakily went out and stole a van, drove it beneath the building where Chu Changge was, and prepared to use transportation to help him complete the "three laps around the hospital" mission.
When Chu Changge opened the passenger-side door, he saw a vicious-looking electric drill lying on the seat.
Without a word, he reached out, tossed the drill into the back seat, and plopped himself down.
Gu Mian: "..."
"Sit wherever you want." Gu Mian spoke as he turned the steering wheel.
He had gotten his driver's license in college, but had barely driven after getting it, so his driving still showed signs of drifting.
Fortunately, there were no traffic police here. Otherwise, Gu Mian would probably have gotten a ticket.
The van, which could start drifting at any moment, slowly headed toward the edge of the hospital.
Chu Changge sat in the passenger seat. He glanced at the electric drill in the back, then at Gu Mian beside him. "Why don't you put it in your inventory?"
At those words, Gu Mian's hand trembled. He stomped down hard with his foot, and a violent screech of brakes instantly echoed throughout the entire hospital.
Along with the braking sound came Gu Mian's twitching voice:
"You people have inventories too!"
"You don't?"
"..." How many features had this garbage game swallowed from me?
A moment later, Gu Mian, who no longer wanted to say anything, started the van again.
That violent braking sound had drawn the attention of quite a few people, zombies included.
They were uninterested in Gu Mian, who was wearing a white coat, but that did not mean they were uninterested in a drifting vehicle.
Before long, a line of zombies trailed behind the van with the license plate number 4399.
At that moment, some bold players were climbing onto the windowsills of their hospital rooms to observe the situation outside.
They were some of the survivors in the nearby buildings.
The hallways were full of zombies, so they definitely did not dare press themselves against the doors to peek outside. Looking from the windows was still possible, though.
The violent braking sound had caught their attention, and these players were quite happy to see what was going on outside.
Whispers rose in the hospital room.
"Look! Someone else is driving a car toward the fence!"
"They're probably trying to ram open the fence and escape too. Are they stupid? This is an instance! That fence might look flimsy, but I saw several cars crash into it and get flattened on the spot!"
"Wait, this car doesn't look like it wants to hit the fence?"
The surviving players in the room saw that just as the car was about to hit the fence, its front suddenly swung aside and changed direction. It actually began driving along the fence.
Only then did they finally see the large group of zombies following not far behind the shabby van.
"Holy shit! What is that car doing? And why are so many zombies following it?"
"Obviously! That's the only moving thing outside. If the zombies don't follow that car, who else would they follow? I figure that before long, both the car and the people inside will be dead."
Inside the van, Chu Changge tightly gripped the handle above his head and questioned, "Gu Mian, I'm not entirely confident in your driving skills."
Just now, Gu Mian had nearly driven headfirst into the fence. If he had not yanked the wheel in time, the hood would probably already have been flattened.
"Don't be afraid." Gu Mian pulled off another deadly drift, throwing off the zombies lunging at the front of the vehicle. "I even dared to drive a hearse. A lousy van is nothing."
As he spoke, he sped forward using his unique driving style and floored the accelerator, calling it:
"As long as the car goes fast enough, the zombies can't catch us."
Chu Changge's face was pale in the passenger seat, probably from all the jolting. "I'll believe in your nonsense this once."
The players watching from upstairs saw the nearly airborne car and widened their eyes.
"That driver... is seriously impressive. Is he trying to drive around the hospital?"
"Don't worry. There are so many zombies outside that we definitely won't see him finish a second lap. He probably won't even make it halfway before the car and everyone inside are destroyed." Watching the vehicle gradually disappear along the fence, one player spoke with absolute certainty.
But less than five minutes later, the distinctive rumbling of that wrecked vehicle once again reached the ears of the players in the building.
It sounded very familiar...
The surviving players eagerly pressed themselves to the windows again.
The wrecked vehicle that had practically been issued a death notice had actually appeared again!
It was still alive!
Though its situation was not much better.
Around a dozen zombies clung to the van, stretching out their arms and pounding hard on the doors as if trying to smash them open.
Strangely, those dozen or so zombies were all clustered on the passenger side, while the driver's side was completely empty—not even a zombie hair in sight.
The watching players all wore bewildered expressions.
Chu Changge, sitting in the passenger seat, also spoke in a baffled tone. "I knew they weren't interested in you, but are they really so uninterested in you that they've gone this far?"
All the zombies were charging toward Chu Changge.
One zombie had even climbed onto the roof, craning its head over to repeatedly smash the passenger-side window.
On Chu Changge's side, it was a bloody, ferocious mess. On Gu Mian's side, the world was at peace, stable and prosperous.
"I don't think this is very fair." Chu Changge pushed up his glasses and turned to look at the car window on his side, which was about to be smashed apart.
Seeing that he still looked calm even with Mount Tai collapsing before him, Gu Mian felt a headache coming on. Then he suddenly shoved Chu Changge's head down.
"Hide. I'm about to use my ultimate move."
It had to be said, this ultimate move nearly blinded the players in the nearby building.
They only saw the car, half-covered in zombies, slightly angle its front before charging toward the fence beside it.
"Has that driver finally lost it and decided to ram the fence?"
