Background

Zhan Pan was already a leading figure of the Devilish Dao a century earlier. He contested the Great Zhou Emperor for supremacy, survived his defeat, and withdrew to Zhanzhou. He later fought Feng Jinxiao before the Devil's Den; the result of that battle was unknown, though Feng Jinxiao eventually reached the Yang God Realm. 290

He became the Devil Ancestor of the Twelve Devil Sects and a Devil Servant favored by the surviving Twelve Devil Lords. This connection made him highly sensitive to fluctuations in the Devil Lords' wills and granted him protection against calamities after his breakthrough to the Yin God Realm. 294 324

He was calculating as well as ruthless. Rather than confronting Chu Ge without preparation, he arranged for Guan Zizai to steal the broken Tiger Soul Blade, expecting Chu Ge to reveal himself for the weapon.
