After settling little Si Mei back in her room to sleep, the little one refused to sleep, her gray eyes darting around. Seeing it was almost eleven o'clock, An Qing was terribly anxious.
"Ling Yun, what do you think is up with our daughter tonight? She's like she's been pumped full of chicken blood, just refusing to go to sleep."
"The child must take after you, liking to stay up late."
An Qing rolled her eyes. "Seriously now, is it because we have a guest coming?"
"When Si Mei came earlier, she wasn't this hyperactive, so it shouldn't be that. Shall I play a sleep-inducing tune?"
"I don't think that'll work. She's probably immune to it by now, or else she knows how to break it."
"I'll go ask her what's going on."
Ling Yun found the little one on the sofa, scooped her up in one arm, and asked warmly, "Qianqian, shouldn't we be going to sleep? It wouldn't be good to disturb others."
"Mmm-hmm, then let's sleep."
To Ling Yun's surprise, why was the little one so obedient this time? Before Ling Yun could think much of it, the little one hopped straight into his arms.
An Qing smiled. "It still takes you, her father, to step in."
Ling Yun didn't think so at all. The child was sweating all over, and she had just been whispering to Beibei—there was definitely something wrong.
"Beibei, what did Qianqian just say to you?"
"She said she wanted to sleep."
It was that simple, but Ling Yun still had his suspicions, though he couldn't spot anything amiss for the moment.
Half an hour later, the little one tiptoed out. She went to set up an array for Ling Yun, while Ling Yun opened his eyes and his mouth twitched violently.
He
