Background

The original Twelve emerged after Pangu's death. Pangu's three streams of pure qi became the Three Pure Ones, while twelve streams of turbid qi gained the Pangu Hall and formed through Pangu's heart blood. They became the Ancestor Witches and founded the Witch Tribe beneath Buzhou Mountain 2.

For a long time, the siblings believed there were only twelve of them. Their discovery of a voice within Father God's heart revealed Li Hao, a hidden thirteenth brother. Houtu waited for him for 100,000 years; he finally took form after 200,000 years, awakening as both the Thirteenth Ancestor Witch and Pangu's contingency-plan Fourth Pure One 2 4.

Li Hao introduced the Nine Revolutions Mysterious Origin Technique to the Witch Tribe. The Ancestor Witches first cultivated it themselves, then used it to transform their people's physical strength and avert the decline Dijiang feared for the tribe 8 12 15.

Appearance

The Ancestor Witches originally possess varied, monstrous true forms rather than conventional humanoid bodies. After adopting Li Hao's more convenient human-shaped Dao body, their outward forms become tall, muscular, and comparatively refined while concealing overwhelming physical power 7 8 12.

• Their original forms combine human and beast traits, with many appearing half-human, half-beast, or as merged beasts 7.
• Houtu's original form has a human torso, serpent tail, seven hands on her back, and two hands on her chest 2.
• In battle, they can reveal true forms millions of zhang tall, surrounded by Dao principles 76.
• Their human Dao bodies are intentionally deceptive: their smaller frames can make opponents underestimate their strength 12.

Personality

The Ancestor Witches are intensely familial. Dijiang mediates disputes and makes major decisions as First Brother, while the others readily unite to protect threatened siblings—especially Li Hao after he obtains the Law of Strength 2 162 163. Houtu is particularly protective of Li Hao and will not tolerate slander or threats against him 162 334.

Their closeness is also expressed through frequent bickering. Zhu Rong and Gong Gong argue due to the opposition between Fire and Water, and the other siblings treat this conflict as routine 1 2. They are blunt, curious, and often unfamiliar with the wider Primordial Era, which leads to poor social finesse and frequent misunderstandings 147 277.

Despite their fearsome reputation, the Witch Tribe develops as an agricultural and physically cultivating people rather than a race bent on conquest. The Ancestor Witches themselves are often described as good-natured, though they become uncompromising when their family, territory, or authority is threatened 252 253 481.
