Background / History
Hatake Sakumo's suicide leaves Kakashi withdrawn, vacant-eyed, and detached from his classmates. He initially states that he has no dreams and dislikes people who hold him back in battle. 1 2
Before his death, Sakumo instructs Kakashi to seek out Uchiha Jin. Kakashi personally requests Jin's transfer into his team, then brings him to a secluded training ground and entrusts him with Sakumo's sealed legacy: a network of trusted allies and supporters meant to safeguard Kakashi. Kakashi agrees to follow Jin's guidance because his father trusted him. 9 10 11
Jin's explanations make Kakashi question the public account of Sakumo's death and recognize the political corruption within Konohagakure. Rather than openly lash out, he resolves to conceal his resentment, become stronger, and eventually uncover the truth. 11 21 22

Personality

Although impulsive and lacking subtlety as a child, Kakashi proves perceptive enough to recognize contradictions surrounding his father's suicide. Jin repeatedly urges him to hide his anger and prioritize survival; Kakashi gradually adopts this restraint while keeping revenge and self-improvement as his central goals. 11 22 35
He becomes fiercely protective of his teammates, especially when Obito and Kurenai freeze in their first serious battle. His directness also carries into his relationship with Kurenai: he confesses plainly, asks for a clear answer, and promises to protect her. 88 89 92 93
