Shane found his attention drawn almost involuntarily to Atrocitus.
The alien male, forever consumed by rage and vengeance, stared at Shane in shock, no longer paying any attention even to Kyle Rayner and his Red Lantern ring.
"Who are you?!"
As the leader of the Red Lantern Corps demanded an answer, a little thick, scarlet liquid with the consistency of magma splattered from his mouth.
Most living beings who wore Red Lantern rings were like this.
Undying hatred and rage were their nourishment and their fuel.
From the moment they put on their Power Rings, the rings' energy replaced their hearts.
Even every fluid in their bodies, blood included, was replaced with scarlet liquid composed of emotional energy.
So those horrifying, bloodlike projectiles from earlier technically counted as Atrocitus's spit.
Shane was not particularly inclined to answer that question.
The lord of the Red Lantern Corps had a face that defied description. Under the warping influence of endless, insane hatred and Red Lantern ring energy, every living being became zombified.
The whole corps had grown uglier than the Sinestro Corps under that hideous distortion. Especially their leader, who looked like a Licker from the Resident Evil zombie movies Shane had watched in his previous life, minus the tail and standing upright.
Shane's silence undoubtedly provoked the lord of the Red Lantern Corps.
No one in this universe had ever dared ignore him like this.
In the past, he would already have attacked in a fit of twisted fury.
This time, however, Atrocitus merely snorted two jets of flame from his nostrils-plasma formed from Red Lantern energy that could burn fiercely even in a vacuum.
"Why have I never heard of you?!"
Atrocitus restrained himself and asked another question.
Shane looked at Kyle, who was still maintaining the light barrier.
He
