"What is this thing?"
Shane stood atop what looked like a gilded metal vat and peered down inside.
Several spheres of unknown black matter churned and meshed together within it. Though he felt no heat, the hairs on Shane's body silently stood on end.
"This is the Atomic Disintegrator. It can break down every substance currently known in the universe. Even Superman would be instantly disintegrated without a trace if he fell inside."
Jor-El's calm, AI-like tone was wildly at odds with what he was saying.
Shane quietly took a step back, even though he could fly and there was theoretically no chance of him losing his footing and falling in.
"What's something this dangerous even used for?"
"Rendering hazardous substances harmless. Nuclear waste, for example, which remains a considerable headache for humanity, or some of the little gadgets Superman's former opponent, Lex Luthor, frequently manufactured."
Jor-El raised a hand and brought up a document resembling a digital daily report. It recorded the various opponents and problems Injustice Superman had faced before he turned evil.

Some of the invaders from space were more troublesome.
Given Superman's absolute dominance in physical combat, most of his opponents who weren't working with kryptonite devised unconventional gadgets to deal with him. And devices capable of harming Superman through chemistry or magic often inflicted tremendous damage on Earth as well.
Superman couldn't simply leave them lying around after a fight, so he collected them and brought them back to the Fortress of Solitude.
Anything that could be rendered harmless was treated and then stored.
Anything truly troublesome was tossed
