Western Territory.
Hun Bugui and Shi Xiu stood with their heads bowed in the hall, answering questions.
There was no other reason. The two of them had vanished from the very first battle. If they'd died out there, so be it.
But they were alive and well, and hadn't returned until seven or eight days later.
Hun Bugui explained that Chang Geng and Maitreya had pursued them relentlessly, leaving them no chance to escape.
"Then how come you're both unharmed?"
Wu Jiu let out a cold laugh. Damn it, two of the Five Upper Halls had already lost people, yet these two good-for-nothings were still alive. The whole thing stank of suspicion.
The two below had clearly gotten their stories straight before daring to return. Shi Xiu stepped forward and spoke without cowering.
"I led Hun Bugui and drew them toward the people from the Central Continent."
The Central Continent?
That was no reason to have escaped. What could the Central Continent possibly offer them?
"My lord, that Hanyu has a grudge against Chang Geng."
Shi Xiu added.
"Why would that brat go after Chang Geng and the others instead of killing you first?"
Wu Jiu suddenly sneered and demanded. If it was a matter of grudges, Yanluo Hall had more than enough reason to hate him too.
There was no reason to spare Hun Bugui and Shi Xiu.
Shi Xiu was about to explain, but Hun Bugui shook his head and spoke first.
"We were out of options, so we took a desperate gamble. We got lucky. As soon as Chang Geng and Maitreya showed up, the others cornered them first. Shi Xiu and I slipped away in the chaos."
It wasn't the most convincing explanation. Shi Xiu couldn't help glancing up at Hun Bugui, her lips moving slightly.
