Since the two archenemies were bound for one♂day, there was no need to rush things.
Lianye did not think he and the Void Predator could determine a winner in tonight's battle, and the other party probably thought the same. If they continued fighting endlessly, they would only exhaust all their strength, until they did not even have the strength to revive. The worst outcome would be mutual destruction.
So Lianye stopped at the right moment, while the Void Predator reluctantly pulled away.
Although its desire to devour its opponent was extremely intense, its physical exhaustion was the same as Lianye's. They had fought from the dense forest in the middle of the night until the eastern wilderness had begun to brighten with dawn. Because he was aware of this archenemy's existence, Lianye had never once slackened in honing himself.
The same was true for the Void Predator. In this contest where failing to advance meant falling behind, the two remained neck and neck, neither willing to yield an inch.
"However, what I did not expect was that you would associate with such weak creatures."
"Weak creatures?"
Lianye did not understand the dissatisfied gleam in the Void Predator's eyes.
"The ones trapped inside this tiny birdcage, unable to escape. Foolish humans."
In truth, Lianye had understood what the Void Predator wanted to say from the very beginning. But even though the humans of this world did indeed live miserable and humiliating lives, he still would not acknowledge that humanity was some kind of "weak creature." After all, he was a human Summoner.
Moreover, the Void Predator's talk of "foolish humans" was so drenched in adolescent edginess that Lianye did not know how to respond for a moment. Though from the perspective of a higher Void creature, the Void Predator's contempt was not exactly inappropriate.
Just as Lianye hunted the Void Predator—though he actually did not—the Void Predator hunted him as well. Yet it had discovered that its lifelong archenemy was associating with some extremely weak creatures, which made it feel quite dissatisfied. Its lifelong rival could not possibly do something so degrading, or the Void Predator itself would lose face as well.
"They sought the key to evolution and attempted to decipher the mysteries of life, only to create weapons of war they could not control, then be defeated by those very weapons. Is that not foolish enough?"
The Void Predator sneered. This master-level expert in evolution seemed to have casually delivered a severe spoiler. It apparently had long since seen how the Titans that had suddenly emerged centuries ago had originated.
If what it said was true, and the Titans had been born from humanity playing with fire and burning itself, then the government of this world truly must have had its brains fucked by donkeys.
However, whatever darkness lay behind this truth had nothing to do with Lianye. The Royal Government within Wall of Sina, the royal family, and the oppressive policies they imposed were all unrelated to Lianye, an outsider from another world. No matter how muddleheaded they were or what insanely foolish acts they committed, Lianye would only watch with cold eyes.
What mattered was that beneath this cruel world, there were people who made one's eyes light up—Mikasa, Krista, One-Sixty, and the rest. With people like them, that was enough. Mikasa and One-Sixty in particular—Levi—could grow into human heroes no less formidable than Garen or Darius.
Setting aside those people whose brains had been fucked by donkeys, if it looked down on even these people, then the Void Predator was being far too arrogant.
"Some people are quite impressive. Associating with them is not bad at all. Compared to hunting alone without end, certain bonds with others are quite valuable."
Lianye spoke with a faint smile. His mood was indeed rather pleas♂ant.
Even the Star Forger Dragon King, Aurelion Sol, who had forged countless stars across the universe, had been drawn to the vast civilizations that evolved independently upon those stars as he drifted through the cosmos. No matter how impressive the Void monster Void Predator was, could it compare to a Dragon King that created stars and gave rise to galaxies?
